Does anyone have a suggestion on a Turbine jet with the longest fuel burn? Ideally I'm looking for 15 minutes. (Yes - I know the average is somewhere around 6-7).

Jackknife? Is this it/you?

http://www.wereoutofthisworld.com/

That thing is colossally huge! Neat looking plane. Though, at 20oz/minute I think it'd last about 12 minutes.

its not me but yea thats the one, Jack still hand builds them one by one, the quality is amazing, its so over built. I wish I could afford one, one day maybe.
Its got room in it for a lot more fuel, it can handle the weight. I think Jack just figures thats enough.

Just curious...why do you need 15 minutes?

Can you say "UAV" and "FAA" and still keep a straight face?

It is across class g airspace. I'm no lawyer but isnt uncontrolled airspace and long distance ok if you stay below the shelf and use your ham license?

Well - apparently its a no-no. At least according to this thread:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6342926/tm.htm

So - that project just died. I just hate US aviation law. It is so draconian.

Whether the airspace is controlled or not is not relevant to what you are trying to do. It only distinguishes the airspace where air traffic control is, or is not, available for piloted vehicles. I am not an attorney either, but if your actions result in the accident of a piloted plane legally operating in uncontrolled (or controlled airspace for that matter), I think you can plan on a giant civil lawsuit not to mention a hugh problem for our hobby.

What sort of RC planes are you flying now? Your last RCU post was in 2009 regarding a P-51.

No lawyer either but my understanding is that it is Not Ok unless you have specific goverment permission, as per recent legislation you would have to be an AMA member to fly RC in open airspace and have a turbine waiver for turbine powered models, the AMA rules WILL NOT allow you to do what you are suggesting, FPV and AMA do not go along that well, even worse using turbine power, and actually lifts a red flag to all AMA waivered pilots who do not want their rights reduced or revoked by an action like this.

Get your goverment permit first, if they will even agree to do so, otherwise you will almost surely be reported to the FAA/FBI and possibly Homeland Security.

Ya - bad idea I guess. Oh well - glad i posted about it before I started!

In answer to what I flying - really nothing now. I sold off my planes a while back. A friend showed me this uav video:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1478852

I thought it was neat and figured it would be even more neat with a jet. Oh well.
