Status: offline 		I have a zenoha g38 and  went to start it today. No spark so i pulled wire out from both ends and clipped it  back so it made good contact on both ends.Magneto end where it slides in  hole and  spark plug cap end. Well now it to short so can i replace it with a car  ignition  wire or what? Or should i just update to a electronic ignition set  up for $70.00. I called and priced out a new magneto and they were  about same price. I wonder if its better with a electronic set up  ??????????

Status: offline 		Personally, I am trying to move most of my warbirds to Magnetos. It is less to worry about. Too bad yours is messed up. E-ignitions are easier to hand start, but I use spring starters on my magneto engines.

Status: online 		You need the ignition wire that has a wire core.

The normal car wire is a grphite string for a core

Status: offline 		i would go to your local small engine shop and see what they can do, and to get your g38 to start a lot better set the mag. at .002 and sand down the flywheel mine starts on the second flip every time

Status: online 		The high tension spark plug wire for these small engines is 5mm whereas automobile wire is often 8mm diameter.

I converted my GT80 to an EI from RC Extreme Power. I love it, 3 flips to pop, two flips to run.

Status: offline 		I bought a new mag for my Quadra 40 from the magneto manufacturer instead of an RC supplier, and it was half the price of a catalog house model. I got lucky, and it had the maker and model on the coil.

Hard to say but I would give the edge to the EI. Magneto spark depends on so many factors from the condition of the coil and associated parts, RPM, coil to flywheel gap, etc. Old magneto coils seem to just get weak with age. Seems that so often old lawn equipment and saws have weak spark but to be fair, an EI of the same age probably wouldn't be working at all. EI would certainly have a more consistent spark throughout the whole RPM range.

For the slow, smooth idle and easy starting I'd choose an EI any day over a mag but have several mag engines in my collection and they work just fine.

OK, but that wire is 7mm. Back a few posts W8YE said our need is for 5mm wire.

Question: is Essex Magwire still around? But, that wire is likely 7 or 8 mm also.
