After spending some weeks reading every thing about homebrew, I decided to jump in and try it. My receipt is 10% nitro,18% klotz ( 13% original techniplate- this all Syn) ( and 5% super techniplate- this is syn. with 20% caster.) The idea here was to have 1% to 2% castor in my fuel mix. I fly heli's so I did not want a great deal of castor involved. Now, my problem has been carbon deposits on the glow plugs, Webra 91 and tt 50. I've had a couple flame outs cause off this. Normally I would say its the castor, but at that small a quantity I doubt it, or am I wrong. The klotz oil has a great reputation, the nitro is Angus, The mentanol comes from a local speed shop. They use a gas blanket to keep it dry, so they tell me. The engines run fine and idle well. I just never had this problem with store bought fuel. I even use to put 2 ounces of castor in each gallon of coolpower and never had carbon buildup. Anyone have any ideas?

I know klotz is a good lubricant , but try a different synthetic. It may be that the techniplate is techniplating your glow plugs.

I have in fact considered just that. But klotz has such an outstanding Rep and it is the easiest one for me to get a hold of. After reading this entire site the only choice I seem to have is Cool power oil or what they seem to call turbo oil 2380. I have run cool power 15% in the past and I am not happy with it. Their 30% fuel uses a different oil, I'm told. Perhaps if they had used this oil in their 15%, my opinion may have been different. I have run wildcat for the last two years and like it a great deal. They use klotz. When I raced motorcycles, klotz was the oil to use. So I do lean towards klotz oil, but I am willing to try something else. I can't believe with all the homebrew experts on this site that no one has had this problem or knows what may be causing it. Please give me your opinion, especially on other oils that you may be using.

Cooper's Custom Blend, has about the best synthetic oil made. Brian Cooper is the owner. It's even less expensive than Klotz:
