I have a DLE 30 which started and ran great last year. I put it away dry for the winter which I now understand that I should have stored it wet and now it won't hand start. Starts and runs great with a prime (76000 RPM with a 18-8 Xoar prop) and has good transition from idel to top end. The engine has only been run for a couple of hours and once nce initially started with a prime it will then flip start without issue. Put it away for a day and it's no go. I've been in the hobby longer than I'd like to admit and have a good knowledge of two and four strokes and have worked on carborators back in the day when that's what cars came with. I replaced the carborator screen and the diaphram on the other side looks flexable and good. I have not looked at the reed block, which I understand could be the issue, as I also understand it's behing the rear engine plate and I haven't gone that far. Finally the question - I can buy a rebuilding kit and try my luck or by a high torque starter and forget about a rebuild. I'm new to gas and don't know if hand starting is a recurring issue so I thinking buying a starter, and not worring about it might be the way to go. What do you folks think.

I use my Sullivan Dynatron starter with a 12 volt lawnmower battery, on all my small gas engines. Have hooked it up with 2 batterys (24volts) and the thing is scarey.... Some of my larger motors, Q35, US41 and G62, have spring starters, which I like alot. By the way, the flapper valves and the metering diaphram in the Walbro need to be flexible, the more the better, so they move easily. Just went thru the carb in my Zenoah 23 in my triplane, the metering diaphram was just a little stiff, and the motor was getting a little cranky, put in a new diaphram, and the thing runs like a top.

If it were mine I would buy a carb kit. Clean and blow out all the passage's and rebuild, then put it away wet. But then again if it were mine, it would not have needed a rebuild kit i don't run pump gas.

If the rubber/flexible parts in a Walbro are beyond doubt, keep them. If not, replace them. Simple 101.
When stored dry for any length of time, replace them, because they will have hardened.

Let it sit wet for about a week, have handled two chainsaws that had set for years. Put in fresh gas and they would only pop when choked and refused to run. gave them about a week and they were as good as new. Easy starts and full transitions!
