We have the first race in the books so it would be a good time to start one if you’ all would want 2 ?
Personally I’m not sure why we haven’t in the past! I have talked to a few racers about it but we really didn’t get to talk about it at Georgetown’s race but what do you guys think about it? Please add your 2 cents.....

I think it would cool to have a points champion.
I cant make all the races with other stuff going on but there are a lot of people that do make all the races and would benefit from it. I say hell yeah!!!!!!!

Gary, remember I did one of my own in 2010, I just based it off of the AMA (American Motorcycle Ass.) point system. I can write it out if you want.

The NMPRA has a formula that they use to track their national points, check it out. Look under race results. The formula is a bit involved, but does weight the points in each race by the total entries. A spread sheet could be put together, any computer wizards out their?

Points = 100 X A -1 +.2A +1E

A = Total points for a race = # heats X (finish place) 1st=4, 2nd=3, 3rd=2, 4th=1
E = # of entries for the race.

Note: How would you treat the Mains, Points for those to? On the other hand maybe just count the regular heat races.

The spreadsheet for the NMPRA scoring in at the very bottom of that same page you referenced Eric. I t is a good system in that it awards more points for larger events and helps prevent a group from holding a bunch of small events and having an unfair advantage. For SEMPRA, we use the NMPRA scoring system and take each pilots 5 best events (per class) each year to determine a district class champion for each class.

I like the NMPRA scoring format but we run a D, C, B & A main event at the end of the 4 or 5 round heats! I think we need to give points for these events being this is what we are flying for at the end of the day. Unlike the NMPRA witch are great events you just gather points in the heats! The Club-40 around here all run main events so this is what we need to figure out….? The winner of the D main go’s on to run the C and so on winner of the B gets to run in the A main. Just something we need to work on!

Well, at the end of the day you have a finishing order from first place to last place. All you do is assign the points according to the finishing order. The points you accumulate in the race mean nothing at the end of the day. Seems pretty simple to me!

If I am correct y'all award points for each heat. These points set up which Main you fly in. Because y'all run a race with Mains at the end of the heat racing, you award pilots flying well the chance to earn a higher finishing place. So, it doesn't matter where you get the points, you just have to run well to get them. Remember, at the end of any day, there is someone in first place and someone in last place. Y'all can apply Series points based on the overall finishing order. Any amount of points per place is good, just make it consistent for every race.

The NMPRA system just puts emphasis on the number of entries. The larger the race the more points per place. Except LAST place. You always get 1.2 points for LAST. I know this fact VERY WELL!!!!!

I like what Scott has to say. This would be simple, just award points on how the pilot finishes the race. But let's say you have 19 pilots like at the last Georgetown race, how would the points be awarded? Has Bob done any posting of the finishing order all the way through 19 pilots. Also, how would you weigh the points by number of entries?

Freddy I emailed Gary a points set up I used a couple years ago, it worked out where everyone got a point on their final finish position, no matter how many racers showed up.

1st 30 points, A main winner
2nd 25 points A main 2nd
3rd 22 points A main 3rd
4th 20 points A main 4th

5th 19 points B main 2nd place
6th 18 points B main 3rd
7th 17 points B main 4th

8th 16 points C main 2nd place
9th 15 points C main 3rd
10th 14 points C main 4th

The rest are awarded points on their heat race totals, I'll take the Georgetown race and do the points for it.

FastFredy, here is a PDF copy of how the points system works. Finishing position down the left, number of pilots in the event across the top. Like Trey said, it awards more points for larger races since it is more difficult to win in a larger event. This is a basic weighted scale point system. To award the points, you simply write out the finishing order and award the pilot points according to the number of entries and their finishing place.

To answer the question using the NMPRA points system:
If you win a contest with 19 entries, you would receive 99.5 points.
If you were to win a contest with just 5 pilots, you would only receive 82 points.
If you were to win a contest with just 46 pilots, you would receive 108 points.

I also included the SEMPRA 424 pilot points for this season to show how we track information for the pilots in our district.

As of 7/30/2012 the Texas Club 40 points standings are in the attachment. The Texas pylon racers are all ready to make that trip to T-town Bama! Looks like Hico is having another Club 40 race and when the corn comes down Georgetown may have one before the Nats!...

I can put them on there but it won’t change anything other than adding names at the bottom! There are a few that has just run one or two…
The point’s race was to get the pilots interested in trying to make all the races!

After the dust has settled from the 6 Club 40 pylon races held in central Texas there was some of the best pylon racing you could ever ask for! Adding the trip we made to Tuscaloosa Alabama and the nationals held in Waco TX this has been the best Club 40 racing we have had yet and I would count on 2013 to be even better yet! The Texas championship points is in the PDF file below. Jason Oliver was not able to make the picture from Georgetown.

What I tried to do on our points championship is I took some of the NMPRA’s points format and made it a little easier for the local Club 40 We like to run mains here in Texas usually after 5 rounds of heats! Then we put the matrix together for the A, B, & C mains with the winner of the C main going to the B main and the winner of the B main going into the A. The C & B mains are nothing more than runoff heats to advance to the next round! All pilots are awarded points from the way they end up after the 5 rounds of heats are over. The C & B mains are just run to advance one last pilot that may have had one or two bad heats that we have all experienced before! When you get to the A main this is where you get your bonus points because that is what we are racing for is to make that elusive A main! So this is how the bonus points work, lets say we have 20 pilots for the race the winner beat out 19 other pilots for first place so if he had say 18 points going into the A main he ends up with 37 points for that event. Second place finisher gets 18 bonus points third place gets 17 bonus points and 4th place gets 16 bonus points. The only reason I didn’t set up points for the B & C mains is because if you had that one could gather more points than the A main winner! So it was just set up as the B & C to get one last pilot into the A main for the bonus points. I appreciate everyone’s input and suggestions on this that is what these threads are for.

P.S. Scott the reference at the end of the excel spread sheet is Eric the engineer at work that created my spread sheet for me that was the name of the file that transferred through when I cooped it over. FYI

Gary
