Status: offline 		I am a teen ager and i have been flying for 2 years. I want to get into 3D flying for the first time. What would be the best beginner 3D plane to start out with? Also what is the cheapest?

A profile such as Mojo 40 /60 size or a nice flying foamy like 3DHS foamy

Status: offline 		yes mojo's a kit if you don't want to build value hoppy has a cheap profile ARF also there is OMP ohio model has some decent profiles .. the idea behind a kit built profile to learn on is they are slightly tuffer then ARF veriosons of the airplane

read up on some moves check out this guys web clinic Bone doc on flyinggaints forum the 3D ground school....


the thing to master really is the inverted and up right harrier figure 8 and what some call the " stir " that's basically the relationship of a four point roll but blending everything together ...

Status: offline 		get a foamie and save yourself lots of time and money and frustration. EPP as suggested. I started with the DW Foamies, which is primary depron foam. They have a "fusion" model that combines EPP and Depron for the best of both worlds. You get forgiving nature of EPP on the fuselage that withstands all the mishaps and crashes with the crispness and flying qualities of a depron wing and tail surfaces that make it fly and float like a 30% model. And it's only 70 bucks and Mike is one of the very best in the business with customer service.

consider that 3DHS foamy it's really outstanding and DW doesn't offer anything perrel to it .. specily if your a outdoor flyer....

Status: offline 		Don't buy the cheapest. Buy one of the ones suggested to you here, or throw your money out the window. There are companies that make cheap planes that might have the outline of an Extra 300 but fly like a turd. IMHO

Status: offline 		honstly if your want the cheap'st anything your in the wrong hobby and that's flat out true...... this hobby is expensive and the golden rule of you get what you pay for applie's


only way i could see " cheap " is if you where a swap meet flyer ... then you better be damn good at knowing what your looking at and fixing other pepole's problem's becouse that's normaly why it's at a swap meet in the frist place

How about a Sabre or Yak? Both fly great and are pretty tough. Great for learning 3D.

Let a new friend fly my Sabre 35 last nite; he has a beautiful A/W Extra 300 74" that he really doesn't want to smash up; he flew the Sabre and said he could see how a plane like that would be helpful in learning 3D. It's a lot easier on the wallet with one of the small profiles, either foam or balsa. The balsa profiles probably fly a little nicer than flat airfoiled foamies, but either will teach you the basics for control inputs and orientation (orientation i.e. inverted flight and belly in hovering was my biggest problem).

Yeah but you gotta point him in the right direction. The some of the other profiles on there arent really no where near as strong. And it's Value Hobby not hoppy

Status: offline 		Stick with the foamies at first because it's not a matter of IF you are going to crash, it's a matter of WHEN you are going to crash. That's just the facts when it comes to learning to 3D. If at all possible get a simulator for your computer. It's a great learning tool and way way way cheaper than wrecking planes. The sims are NOT perfect on the physics but they are darn close. I learned to hover on a sim and within an hour was hovering my 50cc Extra a foot off the deck. Good luck mastering the art.

Get something which is easily repairable, this isn't always foamies. Something with a short moment arm which some of the so called 3D models don't have!
don't look at the beginning of this clip, but after a few minutes are some home designs, sometimes i use the wing or fuselage of a ARTF and make a new design. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTtxStJJyFI
