Status: offline 		OK... I give up. I really tried to keep the tank formers as installed. Popped them out, real easy as you described, and pushed in a 12oz Kavan tank that fit perfectly. Movin' on....

Status: offline 		Strange to relate, I also found a Kavan 12oz tank in my "come in handy one day box" and thought it looked as though it should fit, so that is what it will be. A 9oz tank will be gone in a very short time and don't fancy having a Dirty Birdy shaped glider on my hands !!

Not sure of all this talk about formers being easily removed is a good thing, hope the firewall is glued in a bit better !!

Status: offline 		Looks to me like removing the two front formers takes out the support for the retract nose wheel mounting rails.

I recieved the Hayes 16 oz tank today and it appears to me that it will work fine. I slide it up to the #2 former which is about 3 1/2" from the back side of the firewall. I am using an OS 61 RF with pump so I can mount the tank back without worrying about fuel draw. I may move the tank even further back to be closer to the CG. I don't know if 3 1/2" back from the firewall will work without a fuel pump. If you remove some or all of the #2 bulkhead the tank may go in closer to the firewall. I don't plan to remove the bulkhead as I believe the nose gear mounting rails are supported by the bulkheads.

Here are some pictures. The 3rd picture is looking from the front into the firewall hole seeing the tank up against the 2nd bulkhead. I was holding the fuselage upside down in the picture.

Status: online 		I received mine yesterday and am pleased enough. I do wish they had not hinged the flight surfaces. My ailerons are not centered in the middle of the trailing edge of the wing. On one wing, the ailerons are high. On the other they are low. I am picky about stuff like this, so I will cut the CA hinges and remount to my satisfaction. I will do the same to the elevators. Only the rudder is centered on the fin enough to leave it alone. There are the usual few wrinkles on the elevators and ailerons. Haven't tried to iron or heatgun them out yet. Jon

I guess I got a better hinge installer than you did. Mine are OK, and the ailerons are straight. Initially (when I unpacked the box) the covering was very good. No wrinkles to speak of. After sitting in my house for a couple of weeks now, the wrinkles just kept coming. I ironed out a huge number of wrinkles yesterday. Hopefully they'll stay gone. Also trying to match the shade of red in photoshop as a background for my AMA number decals.

I've just printed out a test sheet with five sets of numbers on a red background with minor variations of red shading. If they all miss the mark, I'll try a larger color test strip to locate the correct shade. I print these on white decal paper (rather than clear) so that the darker wing covering doesn't dilute the color I want in the numbers. This one might be close...

Status: online 		Thanks for the headsup on wrinkles over time. I usually go over the whole plane and I expect to do the same with the gun and iron. Nice numerals...dude you have a low AMA#, I am proud of mine too...40239. BTW, I might go cheap and simple on you guys and use a 4 stroke engine I have (several to choose from) as well as fixed gear. Nobody crucify me! Most discussion here is on what 2 stroke with pipe to use, and retracts fitment, as well as fuel tank enlargement and fitment. I don't compete and don't need to last a whole routine, I just fly my own sport pattern as I call it, and typically take 7 or 8 minute flights. I do enjoy reading what you guys are doing though! Jon

Status: offline 		Cheap and simple is my way too. I will be using a Webra .61 with a regular Macs Muffler (I have three Webra's), and fixed gear. I do have a World Models Intruder with a Saito .91, and I flew my first SPA event last summer. Lots of fun and planning to go back again. I didn't like the 8.8oz tank that came with the DB, mostly because I like 10 minute flights plus a little reserve ...just in case, hence the 12oz substitute I mentioned earlier. I doubt that you'll get 7-8 minutes out of your 4-stroke with a 8.8oz tank.

Jon,
I have the same issue with mine, although the elevators are okay, the tips trailing edges are angled upwards slightly. I may or may not cut the ailerons off, but I will be CA'ing a strip of carbon to them to straighten and hold em straight. Other than that I'm pretty happy with the DB.

Just finish with the wings!! Now on to the fuse. I look at the decals when I open the box and file them away!! Now the only decal I would like to put on my D.B., is the one in the lower left of Chiefk picture. I think I will stay with the stock tank on my D.B. Short flight for me is okay!! But when I was young, I would drain every drop of fuel out of the tank!!

Status: offline 		Don't get me wrong.. I like the decals. They would really look their part on a plane from this era. The problem is, they don't really work at all with this trim scheme. Besides, this plane looks so good butt-nekkid without any decals or graphics it's a shame to ugly it up.

The font choice and design is simply wrong - too square for a rooound and looong model...

Status: offline 		Got mine last week and have been getting ready for setting this bird up electric. I started by pulling the main components out and weighing them. I too have a problem with the ailerons not being hinged on center. The left wing is up near the tip and the right wing is down near the tip. Maybe this will wash each other out. This could be a real problem, but I refuse to cut them off and re-do them until I can prove it is causing a severe trim problems or I can not mix it out with my radio. Some pics of the weights. More to come as I get the time to weigh.

Electric set up so far on my test stand is as follows:

GP RimFire .80 500kv
Gene Ace 6s 4000 Mah 25c Lipo
80 ESC (Cheap One)
APC 13.5x10,11,12,13
APC 13x6,8

On the 13.5x13 I am just at the 1400 watt limit. I will post more of my test results as I have time to test each prop.

Status: offline 		Seems Santa came early... either that or I am supposed to build this thing for testing our E-Tracts. Seems they will fit with only needing to do a little relief work for the nubs on the sides of the E-Tract. Only pulled out the right panel and the aileron looks straight.
