hey guys,

just thought i will share my expierence with the maiden of MY fej's f-14.  one word, AWESOME!  thanks to kevin for the awesome flying.  This is special because this is the first plane i built and setup the 14mz by myself, so i was extremely nervous.   thanks to b1 bob and lowell for the help right before flight and all the guys at field to help me complete the last minute inspection.  Also jeff and heather for heading to hardware store to get some longer screws for the cross bar.   The plane took off with authority and flew true with no clicks of the radio needed .   The plane landed farely slow with no flaps full of fuel.   i had a short flight due to flutter on the rudder, strip set screw.

here is the specs on the plane:

i only perform one mod.  i added the wood and carbon fiber to the aluminum cross bar, not sure if it was really needed but b1 bob and others performed the mod so i did to.
2 x kingtech 170 -  thanks barry
6014 w/ orbitz
8711 on elevator
8411 on everything else
FEJ's evu5a valve  no leaks at all, in fact plane will hold air for several days.  gears works very well.
2 pilots
2 x A123 2c 4600
2 x life 3c 4500
1 A123 2300 swing wing
1 lipo for lights Details4scales  thanks Dan

Gears work so well, while at the field program radio f-14 sitting on bench on gears, i mistakenly hit reverse on the gear servo and the gears snapped up and plane slamming to bench no damage.

Here's what the plane does not have (all the cylinders and equipment is included if i wanted to add them:
no leading edge slat
no speed brake
no operating canopy
no removable nose cone
no tail hook

FEJ 1/6 F-14 honeycomb.  when i orginally weighed the plane i had a takeoff weight at 62 to 66lb but i was using a fish hook digital scale from ebay and i notice that after i pres the power button it went to 0 but after a few seconds it read 6 to 9lbs so bought 3 digital scales for bathroom use and added them up with f-14 fueld and got a 53.9 and 54.4.  i think i will add the operating canopy and working tail hook so i will get it inspected next week becuase it may go over the limit.

here is the link
http://youtu.be/Woa7OaCgzAQ

many many more filghts to come.

hey Wap grats on the maiden! I will be hitting you up for info soon I was think about just making another aluminum piece and gluing them together instead of the ply carbon. Hey do you use a f-14mz radio? if so could I get your programming for the F-14?

thanks Candle.

Fender- yes 14mz if you explained how to send it to you i will do so.   Fender, I'm far from being an expert, but there was never a failure at the aluminum spar.  I really don't think its needed.   This plane will be like a weekly flier for me so i will have a lots of flights.

will do yeah I almost said I probably wouldnt even do any mod but I figured the mob would show up with pitch forks and rope. I ment to ask what throttle u were at during the flight, im hoping that wasnt full throttle with 2 170s because if so I will have to re-think my two 140s since mine will all the options and then some so its going to be much heavier.

Nice okay maybe I will keep my idea of the two 140s, yeah I think the only reason I plan to do build threads on the my next two jets is just to help the new people who come here looking for help. seen it time after time they get beat down usually vanish.
Any plans to throw the ext fuel tanks on the bottom? I going to fly mine from the get go with the tanks that way I can balance everything one time and not have to redo it like I will have to with the f-16

yes i will add all options!  i installed the batteries with hd Velcro so i can move for balancing.

Funny story- the morning on the maiden i was so worried about cg and balance, i cg the plane at least 10 times and forgot to charge batteries, when i got to field i had to charge 4 batteries and the radio battery took forever.

thats why i continue to post.  i like reading the old build threads.  i have read the old fej f-18 and f-16 from 2009 at least 3 times each.

Well I don't worry about maidens to much im a firm believer that if u build it right and balance it correctly it should just fine.

Fantastic plane Wap.  I'm hoping the F-14 will be my next project.  I would like to have it with the Y pipe and a Mammoth if at all possible.  They have a smaller one with the single engine, but I like big airplanes!!!!!!  Hopefully they can offer this option too.  Again congratulations, and a fantastic job!

Lewis
