 Hi, I am brand new to the rock crawling world. I dont even have a crawler yet, but, I would like to. What would you suggest for a starter crawler, I would like to have it where I could grow into it and not have to buy new everything. Any ideas?

Are you interested in a scale crawler or a rock crawler.

 Well, we're going to need a little more information in order to help you.  Ask yourself these questions:

1 - What's your budget for EVERYTHING?  Meaning the crawler itself (either kit or ready to run), electronics if you get a kit, batteries, and charger.

2 - Do you want the crawler to look like a real vehicle (a scaler) or do you want one that's capable and can crawl over anything?

3 - Do you plan on attending any competitions at any point?

@t9dragon  Umm whats the difference?

@jsowens  $350. I want either RTR or ARTR. I DO NOT want a kit. If its ARTR then $275, then I will spend the rest to buy electronics. I want one that can crawl over anything, but honestly I dont care. The only competition will just be a bunch of friends scaling so, no.

If your friends all have scalers then you would probably have more fun with one of those.  Scalers are super capable, but unfortunately can't do some of the same things that a comp-style crawler can.  $350 is a pretty decent budget to get started, but it's pushing it in terms of getting batteries and things also.  My advice is to check out some of the Axial RTR's and go with the one you like best.  Now they're coming with 2.4ghz radios and a castle creations built ESC (quite the decent little ESC).

scale truck, climbs really good with the right tires

comp style

as far as cost, $350 will get you a RTR truck, but you will still need batteries and a charger, unless you cheap out and get a exceed brand crawler. dont go the cheap way, you wont like crawling long if your truck is always broke and your waiting for parts to ship.
good options are
ugly body though

this is the replacement for the AX10

keep in mind that even though you dont want a kit, most of the time a kit comes with upgraded parts that a RTR wont have. you will find that most of the time you end up breaking and upgrading to the option parts that come with the kit
