Hi
many guys like me asking the same question over and over again why to use a mineral oil when we make a runin for our new engine?
i know that the runin is faster the engine temprature is higher to mke al parts fit better but we pay for our mistake.

we all know that mineral oil produce a lot of carbon inside our engine this carbon will stay there for ever we do run our engine at 2500-4000 RPM during runin this makes even more carbon inside.

now we continue to fly another 5 gallons of this sticky oil and what we get is more carbon inside the engine.

now i understand that synthetic oil produse less crabon and as oil it is make an very good lubrication so why not to run our engine cleaner very likely we need to extend the runin process but we have a better and cleaner engine.

please respond.

It's like asking what beer is the best!

My personal belief is that you should look around and see what the successful gas flyers use and use what works. There are many good oils out there. Personally, I use Amsoil Dominator and Sabre. Have used Amsoil for 20 some years. It's been good for me. Others will disagree. That's what makes this hobby great, lots of choices!

Status: online 		If you want to break an engine in that way, there is no reason not to. Personal preference and a longer break-in are the decision makers. The engine will run fine as long as there is enough oil of any kind. The longer it takes to break-in on the front end extends the time it will run on the wearing-out end of its life.

iv'e broke in 3 DLE engines synthetic all the way... Stihl Ultra HP..... the DLE 55 i broke it in on my "everyday use" oil ratio 40:1

my 20cc and 30cc i broke in at 28:1 Stihl Ultra and have switched them over to the 40:1.... it beats haveing to carry one more gas can around




i have a buddy who breaks in all his engines on Amsoil 80:1 even his DLE30 .... now thats extreme.... when i was young, i did the lawn girl/amsoil thing... i ruined a motor on a lean run at 80:1...

Status: offline 		40:1 Stihl Ultra HP seems to work well for me in my planes and lawn tools. I used left over gas from last year with no problems. I even use it in my old riding lawn mower. No smoke and it runs cooler.

Status: offline 		I dont know costs of you there but here a synthetic 2 st. oil 4 times expensive than best mineral oil.Calculations show for a Chinese engine, even part change will be cheaper than synthetic use but I prefer cleaning sure.
Why mineral oil for break in? I have read somewhere, mineral oil allows ring to seat better and faster than synthetic.

This is what I have been told as well. I only run the first gallon(5ltrs) with mineral oil then switch to full synthetic.
If the mixtures are adjusted correctly you will not have the carbon build up. Most excessive carbon build up is because or incorrect oil ratio(to much oil) or incorrectly adj mixture settings.

There are no short cuts to a break in period.
Industrial engines are broken in at the factory. They use one oil for that break in run. Thereafter the manual says to use Oil XXXXX.
its generally a good idea to follow the manual for he first few gallons / 10litres of gasoline

Yep, got some of that too. Definitely smoother, I just like the taste of the single barrel but man it's expensive.

But one doesn't drink engine oil, at least I don't think so.... But there is always good ol' castor oil to drink

Status: offline 		I like a blend of synthetic and mineral oil. That way you get the best of both. Amsoil's two stroke oil is really good.

I sorta like Fat Tire too. But I still remember fondly all of  those great pub beers they had in the UK when I visited there many years ago.
I think every pub sort of had its own house brand.
