I need some advice.

...........After a few years I have given up on NiMH because they just die too soon.
...........Leaping to LiFEs due to all of the positive reports

......... Bought two LiFe brand Rx batteries and the LiFe brand charger: 1100mAH and a 1800mAH Both say to charge at 1C.

But this LiFe charger only has three charge settings: 0.5A, 2.5A, 4.0A Based on this I can only use the .5A setting or I will be risking burning the batteries due to too high of a rate!!!!
What a "Crock" that LiFE would produce such a miss matched charger setup for their line of batteries. Well, oK their largest Rx battery at 3200mAH could be charged at the 2.5A setting I suppose.
Am I missing something there with this LiFE charger????

If not what is a good charger to get to charge my LiFe batteries without hours and hours of waiting?
Does the Turnigy Accucel-6 have the appropriate connectors for LiFe batteries as well as an appropriate connector to a power source or do I have to hunt down these leads too???
Thanks for any advice
Garyss

Most proper chargers will do life, lipo and the rest.
The IMAX works off ac mains but can only chare up to 5amps.
The more powerful chargers, by virtue of being powerful, require an ac to dc converter.

I use lipos because they are lighter per mah and never had a fire yet!! But same principles. Charge rates, C, are getting higher so try and future proof yourself with a high amp charger?

What charger did you buy or you are using to charge your LiFe batteries?

This one i bet http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXZWP0&P=ML
This would have give you more flexibility and you could set the charge rate to what ever you want in .1 increments
http://epbuddy.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=17_9&products_id=74
It's a 50 watt charger good for up to 3500 3cell but bigger than that and you will be maxing it out all the time.

BTW I've never heard of a LiFe battery you could only charge at 1C, we charge the real A123s at 4amps

Thanks for all of the responses.

Yeah, I 'm dealing with the Hobbico LiFe Source line of products (ranting about their poor set-up charger). Thanks for the reference on the G.T. Power and Turnigy Accucel. I reviewed a HobbyKing product and the feedback there was numerous charger failures, hummm. A friend also has recommended/and uses the Turnigy TB6B so I will research that one, too.

Those Hobbico Life Source and the Zippy Flightmas LiFe's are rated at 1C charge and drain at 5C.

Yet they seem to b amungst the most reliable..... go figure.

Not sure what you're terming "most reliable", I've never had any trouble using genuine A123 cells from WrongWayRC

Same here....have been using 2 Turnigy Accucell 6 chargers and 16 Zippy Flightmax 6.6 v 2s RX packs in the 1100 and 2500mah sizes for 2 years now and I will never ever go back to Nicad/Nimh again. Also running the Life TX 3s packs in my transmitters and love them also.

Charging the op batteries at .5c will obviously take about 2hours- given they will have to be charged less often than Nicd or nimh a they hold their better is it really a problem? I agree if charging flight batteries, especially if large mah, a more powerful charger would be good but if just for Tx RX batteries no point investing in another charger?

Most relaible that I've used. I've not used the steel encased A123'a yet but I am planning to.
I've used other brands of softpack LiFe and some are costly with poor reliability

I've had a few Hyperion packs unbalance themselves during use. 2Out of 12 is what I would consider poor reliability.
They've been restored to a balanced state butit takes up to 4 hrs at a 0.5C charge rate.
None have failed in flight though so I guess thats still makes them safer or more reliable than NiMH
