Those who have one know that the hatch is impossible to tape, and their manual suggest there is no need.

Anybody flip one?  How did it handle the water being updide down??

Informing people NOT to tape a hatch is just down right idiotic. Every.... EVERY HATCH on any and ALL RC Boats should be taped! No doing so or failing to do so is just asking for issues!

ps them 2 little water drain holes on the rear will suck water in quicklike  oh and not to mention the front of the clunky flexible abs plastic will pull out almost every time. i ended up gluing some balsa under the hatch and putting a blind nut in with a knurl and cut off bolt to secure the front from coming out but now you just made another hole for water to enter.

I have run my Spartan on 6S since the day I got it 2 summers ago and I have never had the hatch come off, and I do not tape it.

Is the tape not to waterproof if you roll rather than just keep the hatch on when upright?

IMHO its just a matter of time. It's asking for issues. I won't be convinced it's ok to run any boat without proper taping. Only takes 1 time for bad things to happen. It's one of those lesson learned things. The Spartan breaks so many rules of boating it doesn't shock me they say no need to tape. Bad BAD habbit to form though! Traxxas failed to listen to any of the experienced boaters that attempted to help them out, and the product shows that they failed to follow common boating knowledge. Rules that aren't around and talk about to discourage people but rules and information thats stated because time and time again its proven to eventually lead to a failure. Just my 2 cents. I would suggest everyone tape hatch. What's that worst that can happen with the hatch taped? What the worst that can happen without the hatch taped?

man this is like pulling teeth sometimes ! do whatever you guys want. i bet hobby mans boat isnt the original electronics either if your running 6s so that means its all dialed in etc. i know running 6s in mine was like pulling splinters i didnt even get to start  dialing mine in before it went poof then it went on the shelf until my dad said he would take it. so hes happy with the way it runs on 4s im happy because i only have to deal with it when me and my dad go out to run . peace good luck.
