Does any one know what the two trim pots on the main baord of the skylark board does. I think the first one is tail rotor gain but i am not sure.

I have just upgraded to an orion motor. It looks to be running much faster then the stock and therefore the tail gain is out of wack. ( I am getting lift off with only 1/4 to 1/3 throttle!

Which post to I have to ajust to compensate for the new motor?

I had a piccolo and on the piccoboard, the gyro was built in and one of the screws is for the tail mixing, the other is gyro gain. The Skylark is a Piccolo knock off so it should be the same...

What you have to do us up the tail mix to help compensate for the new motor torque, you may have to up the gyro gains a bit too...

I seem to recall the GAIN pot is the left and the MIX pot is the right. You should only need to adjust the MIX a very tiny amount, then adjust the GAIN to center the trim.

Tele,
One mod I did was to remove the shrinkwrap from around the gyro/esc board. Doing this allowes more free air to pass over the board, cooling the FET motor drive circuits. You'll get longer flight times between cool-downs. Both motors will be fairly warm to the touch after 5-10 minutes of hover but the ESC stays cool and that'll help lengthen it's life.
I have a Hughes MD500 body on my Picco-Lark and wasn't getting enough airflow because it encloses everything in essentially a dead-air space, and not only the main motor, but the ESC/gyro board was overheating and causing the FET main motor drive to fade. Once I cut away the shrink-wrap, the ESC/gyro board runs much cooler and can hover until my 1020 Kokams run down(nearly 20 min.) in 90+ degree weather. A quick check of the motors, they feel warm but not so much that you burn your fingers and no noticeable heat from the ESC or battery.
Now if you only plan to fly with a canopy, this mod may not be necessary because the ESC and main motor should get sufficient airflow around it but if you do this mod, be very careful removing the shrink-wrap that you don't contact the board or any of the surface mount components with your cutting tool. I used a pair of cuticle scissors. They're very small and pointy and can get up close to the board without actually touching it.
Let me know how it turns out.

Doug

"I have just upgraded to an orion motor"

What and where did you get this motor. I need a better motor for mine. I am currently looking into a Prefex 280BB. This one looks good but if you are getting lift off from only 1/4 to 1/3 throttle I need that as well.
Thanks
Aantoin
