i'm trying to save weight on my byron AT-6 so i don't want to use a spring starter because of the weight and the failure potential and i don't want to use a electronic device either . i have been hand starting my g-23 for years without any trouble . so let's see who's having the best luck with what they are using . only g-62 users chime in

I've typically relied on either a starter or a jumpstart. If I don't want to mess up a painted spinner then I opt for the jump start. I've use C&H and they work great. No need to worry about electronic devices after the engine is started since the magneto is switched in. Since C&H has changed hands I don't know if you can still get the jumpstart. I have been able to start a G-62 by hand but I just don't want the hassle if the G62 isn't cooperating. I just upgraded one of my G-62's with an RCExl ingition. Haven't run it yet so hopefully it works out okay.

Sounds like the jumpstart is what you're looking for. Your AT-6 looks great!!!

wow i didn't hear that C&H changed hands. i was surprised . i have heard of the jump start but never wanted to have to carry it , charge it etc. Thanks for the complements on the Texan . it was a long road because i had to strip it and fix it and repair it. I've always said it's harder to redo than build from new . i bought it partially built.

Starting a G62 with a spring starter is almost a no brainer. Lube the bearing once a year or so and failure rate is very low. You probably need the weight on the nose of an AT6 anyway.

B&B had/has the lube and it looks like they are going to be back in business after Bill passed. Also does the 62 need to have the start of the prop spin such that the magneto magnets are before the coil, like some Zenoahs need? Reference Toni Clark website that I forgot the details of.

yes , the magnets need to be before the coil and they have to have a fair amount of speed as they pass the coil in order to generate a spark

Call Ralph Cunningham for a G-62 "Lite", or send him yours for an ignition conversion.

well i fired up my 62 this week with no spring starter and it was easy. i like hand propping it better than worrying about getting my fingers snapped by a huge spring . took 2 flips on a brand new engine .
