OK, thanks Andy. Gonna need a few more to make it viable but we won't be making any decisions just yet.

I understand that there is the 4 day JMA meet the week before and the Weston Park meet the week after that could be putting people off, which is totally fine and understandable of course.

Gregg

Gregg,

It is just a two day meet, that is on error an our part and will be rectified.

OK mate no probs.

As you well know, these events take a lot to organise and with the lack of support for Bickley jets this year for whatever reason, its looking quite likely that we will cancel it.

I will leave the booking open for one more week before making the final decision, so lets see how we go

Yes Gregg, it can be an up hill struggle at times! Bickley is sat between the JMA/RAF Wyton weekend and then Weston Park, it is quite a cramped calendar this year!

We have always been the same time of year but understand other events may be favored. It really doesn't matter of course cause it means less work for us so its no problem. We/I just need to be realistic about it from a clubs point of view. Theres no point in paying money for toilets and a skip, having a food wagon on site and doing all the necessary organising and field preparation for only a few guests.

The bottom line is this. Unless a lot more people book in this coming week we'll cancel it for this year.

Will we consider doing one next year....OF COURSE!!!! but only if we know we would get the necessary support

So its over to you guys that aren't Bickley members. If you want to come and fly at our site with our many jet flying members....please book in this week. if not, no problem at all

The numbers booking in for the Scale Jets at Raydon is also quite small. Not sure what is happening this year re the smaller events

Thank you for your continued support Adam.... Makes it all worth while giving up my time for my fellow club mates, especially grown up ones like you.

Who said there couldn't be banter. I said said no rubbish, which you have proved once again you can't do.

I suggest you and I have a little chat outside of this forum

oh and what's the chances of keeping this thread clear of the endless rubbish that always seems to go on it. Please keep the posts about Bickley jets only.

Thats what you actually said. Adam always seems to come in for a load of flak so I  for one am not surprised when he fires some back

Last years thread had to be cleaned up by the mods because of the rubbish that was written.

banter and direct abuse are 2 completely different things

one form to fill in to make sure we can accommodate those wanting to camp is not too much to ask and has proven very necessary in past years because of the limited space we have.

Thanks

I have noticed that the jet forums have been suffering from a lack of new post too, especially RCMF, bit more response on here as it's a world wide forum but things are certainly down and not so vibrant in the jet world, not like it was 18 months ago, also the amount of people selling up their jet stuff

I honestly think the weather is having a lot to do with the situation, I for one am fed up of travelling miles just to get cold and soaked.

i agree, all these things could be having an effect which is why we/i have to be realistic about it.

When we didn't have a meeting a couple of years ago because of a local resident causing us problems, we/i was wrong to do that in many peoples opinion. They also said then that bickley jets was dead and would never return....errrm wrong! It was brought back and was again a great event (which all but 3 people booked in to).

If we have to cancel it again this year for whatever reason i will again do what i can to bring it back again next year when these big national events aren't here.

I don't own a jet and i'm not on the committee anymore at bickley so forgive me for not finding certain things that funny when individuals that do absolutely nothing for the club continue to point fingers and moan when i'm trying to help them!!!

Anyway, I'm still

and hoping we can hold some form of jet meet this year.

Thanks

Your 100% right Gregg, there are those that do and those that don't but we do it for the love of our hobby and for the pleasure and satisfaction that we are helping our club and the hobby in general, also it's gives you self satisfaction in knowing you are doing your bit, even if the people who do appreciate your timeless hard work, do not always blow the trumpet fanfare, you can only do your best, and that's all we ask, the rest (as they say) is up to the modelers out there.

We are having the same issues at Mansditch low numbers booked in we may also have to cancel,as you say it is not worth the time and effort when only a handfull decide to turn up,to be honest i think the weather is the main issue.
Just would be nice to have an idea on numbers to see if its worthwhile

I hear ya Chris...... frustrating isn't it. We have enough jet flyers in the Bickley club to hold a decent event but even they won't contact me.

Still, we put ourselves in this position so have to accept it I guess.

Best of luck with your event

Cheers

Hi Chris and Gregg,
Don't despair i had the same problem up to about a fortnight ago and Jets over Raydon is next week 13 may 2012 people don't seem to want to commit them selves until the last minute.
I have about 20 booked in now which will give us a good turnout for our first ever jet meet. I will try and rally up some of the Debden jet club members to come over to Bickley nearer the time but don't give up it will happen if you pray hard enough.
Also some of the Raydon members normally come as well all be some just to spectate .

Thanks Dave,

Our problem and worry is the outlay. We don't have space and permanent facilities as you know so need to get them in. We can of course run an event without them but feel its only right to provide certain things.

To actually put this into perspective, as of now we have less than 10 people booked in and only 4 of them are guests!

What a cracking jet meet that would be eh

Hi guys

Frustrating without a doubt,

People dont need to commit them selves, but a little comunication would be nice,
after all the idea of these jet meets is to have a good weekend, a bit of banter and meet some new faces.
We had our 1st jet meet last year and was a good turn out,

sometimes you feel like you have done something wrong,

We will  see what happens its not the end of the world.

Chris

What we all need to find is a hidden tarmac or putting green grass runway somewhere, with no houses nearby, plenty of room for camping, and maybe a pop up bar for the evenings. Only then would it mean organisation is not needed.

TEACHER HAS SPOKEN!

Some people are suggesting that the turnouts may be poor due to lack of interest but I think the opposite is true. Maybe there is a lot of interest in jets and therefore lots of meetings for people to go to. If you add all the JMA events, Classic Jets, Raydon, MJC, Bickley, normal club days etc then there are quite a lot of days that people can fly nowadays (which is a good thing). Since mid Feb there are only about three weekends where I haven't had some form of jet flying available and it's almost getting to the point where events are clashing. This means that people are less likely to travel until they know that the weather is good as they know it won't be long until there is another event that they can go to. Also, many people are prepared to travel a long way to go to a meeting but they can't justify going away every weekend.

Would you prefer people not to book in and turn up at the last minute or for lots to book and noone turn up? Neither is ideal and I don't know the answer to the question and do feel sympathy for those that go to the effort without knowing whether the event will be a success or not. Maybe events need to have a selling point to draw the crowds. Wasn't last year's Bickley Jets sponsored? If this isn't possible then maybe try something mildly competetive or add something unique to it (e.g. most number of Boomerangs or CARF models for instance). Something to get your event to stick out amongst all the others.

Feel for the organisers of the Rougham event this weekend. Could be a total wash/floodout

Hi Tim

I hope not for Rougham. Its apparently been dry there today and the online forecast is for a dry weekend but online forecasts are often not right.

I guess we'll see when we get there. fingers crossed
