Here is the pic from FEJ on thier website.

http://flyeaglejet.com/f16/complete.JPG

Its from the series here:
http://flyeaglejet.com/en/F16Advanced.html

It cant be 11kg and it sure aint 11 oz.  So what is it?  It looks liek the scale is set to g so maybe take it times 100?  I dunno.  11 lbs is too much sorry, typo.

If the difference between advanced and non advanced is only 1 lb then I would think there woud be little difference between the two.

Now that I think about it the scale shows 11 * 100 g = 1100g = 2.3 to 3 lbs roughly.

Still seem high?

I have the advanced gear which is why I told you your biggest problem would be landing on grass, it's not just a case of swapping gear for std, the mounting plates are totally different.

I wouldn't put a turbine in it any bigger than the size recommended by Fly Eagle, due to structural limits of the spars and other things.

It looks like the gears weigh a bit over 2 lbs.  Hardly seems like anything to worry about but I guess if the standard gear is 1 lb is a definately a bit more but certainly not out of whack.

I think I will just get a rabbit and go for it.  Looking at the video the guy posted it flies pretty bad ass even with a smoke system installed.

Dude, Re read the thread, he's talking about the 1/8 scale version, not the 1/6, your engine suggestions would destroy the airplane. A 140 in a 1/8 scale F16???

I think the 140 would fly like the 120 as the specs are very close.  But as was mentioned the 120/140 combo is a bit heavy and the residual thrust makes landing hard.  I was just concerned about not having enought thrust but a 140 is a no go.  Too bad the price is nice.

Also the 140 and 170 are teh exact same turbine but the 170 is "certified" to run at a higher RPM is all.  Its an overclocked 140.

I think my bet choices are the P80se, or one of the 100 sized turbines like rabbit or vt100.

I am calling about a rabbit today, going to figure out service costs and locations etc.  I believe jet munts has to be sent to germany so that is a big negative.

Jetcat 100 looks good too!

I flew the advance F-16 1/8 original fiberglass airframe with a t-750 putting out 24lbs of thrust.
It flew great! There is a video on the FEJ page. Mine is the tiger scheme. Regards.

Have you seen the new Jetzmunt VT-80? Very light ans over 18# of thrust.
I think is lighter than the rabbit, and the ecu is inside the turbine.

That jet is screaming for a Jetcat P-100. You will appreciate the simplicity of the install and the minimal space it takes up too.

Hey I was stating the fact the 140 would be plenty and the next higher would be a 170 which is to much. That was my hole point of saying that you just miss understood my comment

I don't think the K80 would do well at all. It needs more than that. It would fly sure...just not with any kind of authority.

I went ahead and puled the trigger on the Rabbit.  Its amazing how it is smaller than the K80 but puts out 4-5lbs more thrust and weighs less.

I think it is a perfect match for this jet, and it still flies like a brick I bet but an expensive brick with a nice turbine!

Which Rabbit puts 4-5 pounds more than a K80?
I have one at around 18.5 lbs flat, and it is going into my FEJ F-16.

My SM F-16 was 23lbs and the Rabbit flew it very well.

Rabbit: 23 lbs lbs nominal
K80: 19 lbs nominal

Both are rounded up.  Figures for the k80 range 17.5 to 19 lbs depending on where you look.   I've never been able to get an answer on the exact thrust of the K80.

I plan to measure the thurst of the K80.

I've read the rabbit will put out 25 lbs.  Either way nominal figures show 4 lbs or so more.

The Sm f-16 is much lighter than the FEJ.  I should of bought that one for sure.

If your rabbit only puts out 18.5 lbs you have an old one or soemthing.  They've updated them and they are much stronger now.    Check the jet central website..

Good choice on the Rabbit 100! You'll love this sweet little engine. I have one in my Classic Flash , performs really nice.

I have the original Rabbit, yes, but I seriously doubt the new one puts out 25lbs.
The new you are peobably looking at 22.5lbs. Still enough to fly your jet.

And I can tell you for sure that the SM F-16 is heavier than FEJ. Also beeffier. I just kept my equipment very simple to keep it in the low 20's. Others are as high as 30lbs.

Im planning on painting my FEJ F16 this week or the next and take it out for a spin before summer.

\Wow Falcons, you're the first to say that.  usually people tell me I should of got the SM f-16 because the FEJ is too heavy!  I feel pretty good about it now.

22.5 lbs, I will take it.  That is 3.5 ls more than the K80 assuming it gets 19, but I hear its really only 18, and sometimes less depending on the one you get.

I agree 25 lbs is a bit high.  Thats what the retailer told me.  Not sure why becuase I had already committed to it by the time he said i.

What FEJ f-16 do you have, is it the 1/8th, care to make a build thread?    There doesnt seem to be much to do on it.  Far less than the f-86D I am building needs.

Huh? My 1/8 SM F-16 weighs 18.5 lbs takeoff weight. Flies authorativaty on a Wren MkIII with a wren pipe. Powerjets, who I fly with regularily, FEJ F-16 flew with a rabbit and was slightly heavier than mine and he didn't have full doors like I did.

18.5 wet? Not even my Tamjets was that light!! Maybe my old BVM Ducted Fan.....hell even my Cermark was 19lbs wet.
At 23lbs wet it flew great on a Rabbit, not as fast as TJ's though.
My best guess is your scale is off by a good 4 pounds, or you trully have the world's lightest SM F-16.

essyou, I'm not building it completely. I got it second hand from a buddy and will be repainting it in Morocco Camo, which was the 4500th rollout. I can post pics of the equipment intall though.

Regards,
David

I stand corrected my JL F-16 was actually lighter than TJ's probably because I painted it with Testor's Model Master, aurbrushing very thin coats. It was ~22lbs wet with FULL ordinance, scale gear, EV5 valve.....
Loved that plane.

I flew my 1st gen F-16 (1/8) on a p-120 , a P-80 and a rabbit.
the P-120 was over the top with too much residual thrust to make landings easy.
the P-80 was a pretty good match, but the rabbit was even better.
the fit, fuel consumption and power of the rabbit is perfect for this plane if you keep it light.
mind you , it would probably be better to have standard LG in this size... wingloading is very important on these small scale jets.

I think powerjets is spot on with his advice. I had a 1/8 SM F 16 with an old school P80. More than enough power and speed. I sold it and the next bloke put a 140 in it and folded the wings. RIP. Keep it light or it will be a pig.

I had a FEJ F 16 standard with Merlin 90. Great combo. Must keep this jet light as yes it is heavy compared to other manufacturers. Had 57 flights until elevator servo fail. Miss my F 16 great flyers. Need smooth grass for this jet or sealed.

Good luck.
