Greetings everyone.

I purchased my first tank this evening, an HL grey Tiger w/metal upgrades. Looking forward to tinkering...

Cheers.

In my opinion tinkering is what its all about - it's the most fun for me. I have three HL Tiger I's if you count the all metal Mato as a HL.

Plus all the repairing too! Wish I could do more of that.

I received the Tiger today. First impressions, a little rough around the edges to say the least, but I can work with it. At the moment the tank is completely stripped down and getting a fresh coat of flat tan paint.

HLs are certainly 'diamonds in the rough', but a great deal.

Enjoy it and post pics!

(By the way,the color you're looking for is 'Dark Yellow' or 'Dunkelgelb'. Tamiya and Vallejo both have great paints if you have an airbrush.)

Good deal.

If I saw another new Tiger tank in the stock grey color with shiny metal sprockets and idlers, I'm gonna ...

The HL Tiger I is early production, so wouldn't they have to be grey? Not sure when they switched to dark yellow, but I know it was later in the war.

Both Heng Long and Tamiya are the Early Production Tiger's. The point is that it's getting painted and not left with those shiny upgraded parts.

No shiny sprockets or idlers.

I do not have an airbrush, so I think I will apply the accent colours with a small piece of rough sponge. Anyway, off to mask the wheels...

Plenty of earlies were factory painted in Dunkelgelb, surviving ones were generally field coated too when they hit the Steppes.

The Tamiya version isn't the early earlies, but more mid-early, still with rubber tires but upgraded as time when on. There's a whole time-line out there of the changes as needed (defensive weapons, removal of decapitating cupolas, zimmerit) or necessary due to material shortages (steel wheels vs rubber).

Grumppee,
Welcome. I clicked on your post soley due to your member title. Just had to see what an ole grumppee had to say. First of all, welcome. I think you'll find the tanks and this forum very entertaining. Many, many great folks here who will help you with any problem you may have. No hugh egos that I have experienced in some of the boat forums, just a bunch of great guys all interested in tanks. I also want to echo ( ausf) in requesting some pics of your build. Once you get done with your HL Tiger I, I would also suggest the HL Panther G and Jagdpanther. Both fine models.
Welcome once more to a very addictive hobby.

Jim
