Hey all I have a question I had asked on my build log page a while back but had other stuff on there as well, and it got over looked.

My dad and I are building RC Airboats for our hobby, we got a MLD-28cc great little motor we got it all broke in now and want to mount it on the airboat. My question is this how can we waterproof the ignition box for the CDI? Someone my dad talked to at the LHS said to just toss it in a balloon? Is that OK to do with the ignition box? Any other ideas or thoughts are apprecaited as well.

Thanks tons
CTSmithey

Just seal it up in a sturdy plastic bag

I have 5 of these motors. They are great engines but if you have any running or starting issues be aware that they seem to have ignition issues. Changed two of mine to rcexcel ignitions after having replaced a lot of the stock ignitions. They now run great and consistently.

As a side note, I installed the RcExcel crank sensor in the exact same spot as the standard sensor and mine run great. Have not experimented with ignition timing changes.

I had read a lot of reviews saying the same thing you said there. We are going to get a RCEXL replacement when we can afford it as well. We picked this motor up new in the box for 110$ 3 months ago and it really is an impressive powerful little runner. We have never owned a real RC engine only ran weed eater/chainsaw conversion motors. All the break in was done on a test bench and it is just so impressive we want to try it on the airboat we think it would be a great motor for it.

You are correct. I have put many flights on mine since my post and they are running great. There are more powerful engines out there but these are very smooth and inexpensive. Well worth the $50.00 ignition investment. Very frugal on fuel as well.
