Why is the american part of the site showing 19% vat tax included? I thought we did not have to pay vat taxes....is that just a 19% extra profit on american buyers price?

Where do they find these people, WeCohe is located in Germany, absolutely no part is located in any other country including America.
Tax is something governments take it is not extra profit, I believe they are working on a brail program to help people who find it hard to read normal words, exports outside of Europe this means America will have the 19% tax removed

If I click on the american flag.....it gives prices in dolllas and also says "19% vat tax included" in english. Are there a lot of people in germany buying parts in dollars and reading the site in english? If you read around the fouums, people have complained about being charged vat tax regaurdless where on where they live from many sites in euorpe. Count that.

The american flag is to show the site written in english, and it defaults to dollars, you can also so the site in Pounds sterling, Euros, Yen and Canadian dollars. Believe it or not most of Europe, and indeed the world speaks english, including an island off the European mainland.....

Not all sites have to have an "american part".

Cheers,
Rik

I've never understood the "legalities" of the VAT. In the past, I bought several of Christian Juckenberg's kits from his site. I got charged VAT whenever I bought from him, and then found out that a German-speaking friend on the east coast was able to buy them from him without paying the VAT. My friend's explanation to me was that the VAT was an internal tax for Germany; and didn't have to apply to exports - you just needed to square it away with the seller. When I asked Mr. Juckenberg about it for future purchases, (and out of respect to my friend, I didn't mention their arrangement), he replied that it was a mandatory tax that everyone had to pay. So, that showed me that he was not the kind of dealer I wanted to support any further, I haven't bought anything else from him - I really can't afford to throw away money when it isn't necessary. -Mike

From what I understand from certain vendors (past and present) - you have to have a VAT exemption issued by the German Govt, otherwise bend over and grab your ankles....

If you click on the American flag which says English underneath, notice the use of capitals, yes it may give the price in dollars but funnily enough if you click on the box you can also see the price converted to various other currencies’ the part that says 19% tax included in English notice again the use of capitals is there on all currencies and it’s upto you to tell them that you live outside of Europe and deduct 19% from the price, people in Europe even the stupid ones know that if they buy things in €uros, otherwise they have the ability to convert into Euros really it’s not hard and there are many websites to help, “where on where they live from many sites in euorpe” this I have a problem understanding I think you mean even if they live in Europe, this translation is really open to debate, yes if you live in Europe you will pat Germanys VAT this is normal and again people in Europe know that you on the other hand don’t live in Europe so are not eligible to pay VAT and must state that when ordering if you don’t or cant then you will be charged VAT this will go to the German government who will in return help pay of Greece’s debt.

For all us American taxpayers, it shouldn't be long before tax reform is finally going to have to be addressed & a VAT of some form instituted.

Read some of David Stockman's, ex-congressman & Reagan budget director, recent work & you will see that no one is going to get away from a dreaded tax increase, not even that old gas bag Herman Cain & his idiotic 9-9-9 Plan.

OK, I'm just a dumb 'mercian, I'll admit it.  What does VAT stand for?

By the way you guys have me laughing out loud with this American stuff.

I think the site should show an English flag for English speaking people.  After all they invented it, we just screwed it up.

Value added Tax ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Value_added_tax )

As others said I'm sure it's just a matter of time before the various levels of government here in the US realize
a national VAT could be implemented here and the citizenry could do nothing about it. Unfortunately the local governments
will not want to end the local sales taxes in an effort to pay off the entitlement pensions public employees feel is their birthright.
As it is in my area we pay 8.25% sales tax on everything.

Problem with most socialist leaning governments they never have enough money.

The only obstacle to a national VAT here in the States is the whiny 'victim' element who feel the tax burden is something that should only be borne by people who take responsibility for themselves, get a job therefore productive and not by themselves.

VAT, sales tax it’s all the same thing more money out of your pocket to prop up your country this money helps pay for the running of the country including the armed forces ETC it’s not just to keep work shy individuals.

It matters not what flag a website fly’s just so long as they have an English translation.

VAT on European web sites only applies to people who live in Europe people who live outside Europe must point this out to the web shop and the relevant VAT will be deducted, VAT is automatically applied to everything and causes more paperwork when a none European person buys something, if you can’t do that simple thing then you will pay European VAT.

Sales tax in California only applies to people who live in that state, I have no idea how this works but when I have bought items from there I have simply sent an e-mail telling them where I live and have not been charged this rate.

So it's just another name for a sales (point of sale) tax.  Thanks for explaining.

Yes that is correct. As a foreign buyer you have to pay local VAT, you can claim this VAT back though, much like you can when you go on holiday. Whether the seller can offer with or without the local VAT depends on their individual tax and business tax is set up.

In the EU we also pay German tax, but we do not have to pay VAT when the item lands in the UK, as it was paid in an EU member state.
