Okay. Not that I am the spell police or a rivet counter, but it's called VVSS and the HVSS.

Vertical Volute Spring Suspension and the Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension.

Not so much a miss-spelling but I wish everyone knew exactly what it stood for.

BTW, being a HUGE Sherman fan I'm almost equal to that of being an M36 fan as well, since they share the same chassis. I have never seen a production vehicle of the M36 line using the HVSS ... never.

The M36B2

Now that this subject has been tossed in the air, last night I dragged out my 1/35th Jackson kit and put some calipers to it and I may just try to squeeze it back on the bench. I have enough material on the tank to get the details correct, like the engine grill and the exact width.

And then there's the re-building of the Max Trax turret. I really wish I had Nicks kit instead but hey, it's paid for!

i've read it somewhere a few years ago can't find it back, could it be a desing from the drawtable that never was produced just like the pershing turret on that chassis was also VVVS

strange if you see the 105mm en the easy eight were both VVVS and HVVS

You my friend need to get some more books. Yes, the Pershing was under development as many prototypes and it did have a few VVSS chassis's under it before it they settled for the chassis it has now.

And the 105MM Sherman came out on a VVSS chassis originally, then later ones enjoyed the HVSS.

So what's your point? There still was no HVSS M36 Jacksons. You might find one that was a rare variant, a prototype ... but they never reached production that way.

You'll notice that the tracks in the large picture of the M-36 have the duckbill extenders on both sides of the track shoes. This is the 'E9' modification, which was designerd to reduce the ground pressure of the VVSS Shermans. Unfortunately, it came out at the same time as the HVSS suspension, so it didn't get used much until after WW2, when it was used on a lot of export vehicles. The suspension components are the same - they're just spaced out from the hull to clear the insdie run of duckbills.

Aw, bummer, I'm not into the 1/6 scale!  I like it though, nice TD.  Also, a great pair of books for the M36 are available from Squadron/Signal Publications.  This is a modeling publisher who prints a wide variety of walk around and "in action" books.  The two I have in mind (and on my shelf, actually) are "Walk around U.S. Tank Destroyers" (Armor Walkaround series #3)and "U.S. Tank Destroyers In Action" (Armor #30).  these will give you all the info you need to understand what the M36 series TD's were and what comprised the M36B2 TD.  They won't give you all the photos you wnat, but enough for general modeling purposes.  Both publications also include sections on the M10, M18, M...somethingorother half-tracked tank destroyer and several other models.  Hope this helps!

Oh, and as a by-the-way, the big picture above isn't of the M36B2, it's a garden-variety M36 based on the M10 chassis.  I don't remember if the applique bolts on the armor signify that it was an M10 conversion or just an early-production M36, but the books I mentioned above will tell you.  Ta!

The difference between the M36 and the M36B2 is that the M36 was based on the M10A1 hull (M4A3 chasis-Gas) and the M-36B2 was based on the M10 hull ( M4A2 chasis-Diesel). The M36B1 was on an M4A3 hull.

Sorry I came on an old post.
Investigating on the M36B1 I recall on this thread. Jeff I completely agree with you Karel47 made a mess of suspensions pictures…etc.
Never existed a M36/M36B1/M36B2 with HVSS suspension ( bad luck for us) if a chassis was used in the battleground never was registered in pictures, but from the assembly line non of them had HVSS.

I’m not a rivet counter and neither an expert about military but I make my research and read the books before making an opinion. People that don’t know about the matter could have wrong information and finally we will finish building Shermans on a Tiger chassis for convenience, or just because somebody say has a picture on the hard disk. I also have seen M36B1 built with sponsons which doesn’t apply neither.
