The YouTube videos show them removing the ammunition belts from the gun bays.

I can hear the safeties on the checkbooks being flipped to the off position.

did nt see any battle damage on the plane. Looks like theengine might have still been turning judging by the prop damage. I am thinking he pilot ran outta fuel. Any other takers?

Take note that the prop tips have been curled backwards, suggesting that it landed without power and may have been windmilling. If power was on, the prop tips would be curled forward. Also note that the pilot's parachute is still there. Unless he was rescued, he may not be far from the aircraft.

when you say curled forward, would nt a engine under power do the same? I am thinking most pilots would rather land under power before fully depleting his fuel

http://www.dumpert.nl/mediabase/2109521/99668a7b/gevonden_in_de_egyptische_woestijn.html - this is a google link with 2 video,s and it looks like the canopy glass is not broke as they try to open it but is stuck and 2nd vid. show glass broke here is what it says about it - 70 years after it crashed, a P40E Kittyhawk has been found in the Egyptian Desert.

No major news outlet has picked up on this yet. But at the end of March a Polish team out in the Western Desert came across a P40 aircraft which had apparently made a forced landing, in which the undercarriage collapsed. The aircraft identity has yet to be confirmed but is believed to be from 260 Squadron RAF and it's location suggests was lost around the time of the battle of El Alamein. Until the planes identity is confirmed, the pilot's fate remains unknown, although an unused parachute pack was found alongside the wreck, very strongly suggesting he at least walked away from the crash.

The Egyptian authorities have been informed and the Egyptian Army visited the site and removed the ammunition from the guns. It's hoped the aircraft will be preserved and recovered but nothing concrete has yet been made public.

Fingers crossed it finds its way in one piece to the El Alamein museum, near Alexandria!

I agree, I have seen pictures of planes that had gear failure and belly landed under power and the blades always curled back.. There are also alot of carrier landing videos of the same kind of things happening.. curling backward

Really cool piece of history!
Ram-bro- The props would most likely bend forward under power due to the flex of the prop among other things. I know it's kind of weird to thing about though.

I can tell you from unfortunately witnessing props hitting sold surfaces on a few occassions, that they do indeed bend AFT, then twist and the tips curl into the opposite direction of rotation

Not really,  the 9 had 2 stage merlins,   already reported this one a page or 2 back,     no developments yet,   i just hope it comes to fruition,  after years of false hopes, of lancasters in boxes etc,   i will believe them when i see them,   but these things do happen,             not that long ago,    3 hawker hinds where found, brand new, and unflown, in an afghan airforce hangar,    they kept one, and gave us 2 back, the shuttleworth museum got one, and flies it, the other went to the RAF museum, never to fly    so it can happen,
