Status: offline 		Time to buy a case of turbine oil. Wanted to make sure Shell Aeroshell 500 turbine oil is still considered the best choice ? I used to use Exxon 2380 but was told that Aeroshell 500 was a better choice but I cant recall why. Less carbon build up in the combustion chamber I think.

Status: offline 		Used nothing but Aeroshell 500 since day one. I get it at Tulco oil in Arlington. I should say Dawn picks it up and we usually split a case.

Status: offline 		I am now running jetcatusa oil. Wilcox is bottling this oil and he is adding anti static fluid. $10 a qt in any qty needed.

Status: offline 		Aeroshell 500 is all I have used since day one also until I started flying Jet Central. I now use Mobil DTE Light. It is less expensive, but the big plus for me is that it's Human friendly... You could bathe in it and it won't hurt you, and most of all the exhaust vapor from our engines is non toxic from the oil... Aeroshell is without a doubt the oil of choice, which I can run in Jet Central also, but they approve DTE Light so that's what I use..

I don't think TC-w3 oils will protect properly. If you are going to run 2C oil... you should be using a synth API-TC or JASO-F.


I've been using 500... but I've heard nothing but good about DTE, so I'm going to switch over to it this year. (cheaper, and not toxic)

Status: offline 		Last time I checked the MSDS for each and 500 has a bit more of the organo phosphate (nasty stuff) in it... been using 2380 since day one without problems myself, but know lots of people with the same experience with 500....

Status: offline 		I get my oil by the case at Tulco oil here in Arlington. Aeroshell 500 turbine oil currently sells for $ 12 per qt when you buy a case of 24 cans. I would be willing to try Mobil DTE lite as an alternative. I assume you mix it at the same ratio as you do Aeroshell or Exon/BP 2380. In other words one qt per 5 gallons ??? I will check and see if Tulco sells DTE lite. Thanks guys.

I run Aeroshell in my P-60 & the last tim I bought it (from Bankstown) it was about $20 per qt.

I only run jet oil in the P-60 for warranty purposes. For everything else I'm running DTE light,
available from Lubes Direct just 'down the hill' in Penrith. About $100 for 20 litres, delivered.

I don't think Tulco sells DTE....I checked when I first bought mine.... Talk to Jimmy, he gets local there at Reeder Distributors...It's about $60.00-$70.00 for 5 gallon pail.

Status: offline 		Do not use API TC or JASO F. It gets sticky when it sits for awhile, and you will have to wash the bearings out to start the engine. The oil gets thick like STP. Use TCW 3 or better yet
use DTE lite or GST iso 32.

Status: offline 		DTE lite is the way to go, I bet Jetcats own oil is closer to DTE lite than conventional turbine oil if not the same thing

Aeroshell is just a brand, mobil, BP, Total plus others do oil for turbines so dont restrict the search for aeroshell stockists.

OK. I don't personally use it, and I know TC-w3 is the "Environmentally Friendly" version of the 2C oils. (safe for water critters)

I would agree that it can get sticky... but the full synth versions shouldn't.

Anyway... no reason to debate it, since I'm not running it, and if you guys have been running it... it must be ok. Heck, I use to run TC-w3 oil in the Diesel fuel to keep the pump lubed. (dang ULSD)
