Hello,
I'd like to ask about the rotor blades , does the carbon fiber blades make the helicopter ( T-REX 250 ) more stable and easier to control or the plastic blades ?
Any information will be appreciated ,

Thank you ,

Best regards ,

Depends on the blades really, there's good plastic and wood blades and cheap ebay junk carbons.

In general a good carbon blade will be more efficent and better balanced and will usually track dead on when set to the same pitch on both sides with a pitch gauge. Anything that makes a heli smoother will make it less troublesome to fly and maintain.

A well balanced plastic blade set would fly much the same way though.

Agreed. Unless you're flying a very low quality set of blades you won't notice the difference between materials until you get into pretty aggressive flying.

It's probably worth mentioning that nothing beyond taming down your cyclic and maybe headspeed will make the 250 more stable or easier to fly, those things are squirrely as hell!

Dont own a 250...but do they have the flybar weights like the 450?  I still have the weights on my 450 and all the way out against the paddles.  My 450 is fine for me like this for now.

However, my 500 didnt come with weights and it is not as quick reacting as my 450.  I just kind of assumed this was because the 500 is almost twice the size of the 450 with more mass/weight and it just didnt need any weights on the flybar to "tame it down".

With that same logic, it would seem that the 250 would have weights too.  If so, do they help?  Cant really say that they help or not on the 450 (someone seems to think so or they wouldnt be there) because Ive never changed their position since I build the thing.  Not sure that I need the 450 any quicker than it is now anyway....thus why I never toyed with moving them around.

That twitchiness of a smaller heli is mostly due to disc loading. Weights all the way out and heavier paddles can tame it down by adding to gyroscopic stability somewhat but it won't feel the same as if you had lighter disc loading, that's the reason bigger helis just fly nicer.

The best thing you could do to tame down a 250 (I'd think) would be to put longer blades on it. I know very little about the 250 so I don't know if it can take blades larger than what it comes with without modification or if stretching the 250 is common at all. If there's a safe way to do it the heli will definitely be better behaved as a result.

Thank you very much for your posts , my 250 heli is Align and it didn’t come with weights , just flybar paddles , about the rotor blades  , I use the included “ Align “ blades ( it comes with two sets of blades , plastic and the carbon fiber blades , which are both of good quality ) . I think the carbon fiber blades is a little bigger than the plastic , which - according to the information you provided - should make the heli more stable .

The thing is , I am new to helicopters and chose the 250 size thinking that it is the easiest size to begin with , after building it , I tried to fly and I almost crash it so I stopped and got a simulator to realize that bigger helis are more stable and easier to fly - according to the simulator - so , I don’t know if it’s better to get a bigger size for my first helicopter and appreciate your suggestions about this .

Is the 500 size better or the 550 and do you recommend flybarless or not ? .

Any suggestions will be appreciated ,

Thanks a lot ,

Best regards ,

If you would have asked, we would have told you, bigger is more stable, and bigger is easier to see, therefore, bigger is easier to fly. The disadvantage of course, is that bigger costs more.

Thanks , I recently registered in RC universe as I discovered the site !
Do you recommend the 550 ( T-REX 550 ) or 500 considering that I would like to be able to fly in a small field and is it better to get flybar or flybarless model ?
I appreciate any information ,

Thank you ,
Best regards ,

I think the best bang for the buck these days is 500 size.

As for the FB vs FBL it doesn't really matter. One is mechanical tinkering, the other is electronic tinkering. Either way, with heli's you have to like to tinker

I love my fbl 500! Not sure I can suggest 3gx outright though. While a friend and I have had totally fine experiences with it another friend has had a nightmare getting it set up on his 450. It's most likely fine but beastx (or vbar!) is guaranteed fine.

I like fbl because I don't like mechanical tinkering as much and there are less parts to damage in a crash. A flybar will bend if you look at it too hard and they can be annoying to set up. Fbl also does better in wind so you won't find yourself grounded as much which is nice when you're starting out and all you want to do is fly fly fly. Fbl also has a bit more punch to it when you need it and crisper cyclic response when set up properly, but really a dialed in flybar can hang just fine. It's all just preference, I'll personally probably never buy another flybarred heli.

But yeah 500 would have been great to learn on and has all the power I need for 3D just have to get used to the noise and size of t, they're intimidating at first!
