Status: offline 		It's nothing fancy but here's mine. It's built from 3/4" plywood and is 36" x 96". I usually place a sheet of sheet rock on top when I'm building

Status: offline 		I just today, built one based on the above drawings. I made a few changes but it was good place to start. Spent $92 on materials at Lowes, including the
2 1/2" casters and 3/4" MDF cut to size for me. The top is 36"x60". My frame is 48"x30"
Plan to add a couple of drawers under the top, like the last pic, and possibly a rack for sheet wood on the backside in the future.

Status: offline 		I built a torsion box topped with 16 guage steel. The base is two heavy duty shelving units. A torsion box can be made to any size. The steel makes it a bit tough to pin, so I use magnets instead.
I also built two walls of cabinets out of MDF, birch ply and poplar. Building them myself allowed me to make the cabinets large enough to store full kits.

Status: offline 		id look into a GRIZZLY INDUSTRIAL table top, its like a thick butcher block and its STRAIGHT . YOU Could just lay it on top
of a good table , but their pricey , building a good bench is too .

Status: offline 		thanks ..I want it simple as well.I dont want to attach it to the back wall so castors is a good tip..when I had my workshop the table was 8'x4' and I used homosote when building on it.I would love to have drawers and was thinking of a cheap cabinet at lowes and just build a frame over the top.

I should start my 1st kit build with magnets next week: I'm getting my new workbench this week but I didn't make it, I bought it. It's not easy in the country where I live to get the proper materials to build a workbench like yours.

Status: offline 		I've got this one, which is 30" tall, 30" wide and 96" long:


Then there is this one (foreground) which is 48"x96" and 36" tall, and the one in background is 24" x 48" and 30" tall (its on rolling castors)




I've also got a 30"x96" one that is up against and 36" above the floor for small work. Another one for power tools, then 2 fold up table, and another 48"x50" table as well. Unfortunately, i've run out of tables! But have just enough room set aside for a 24"x48" CNC router..

Status: offline 		I have a 30" X 60" work table on casters with a 48" wide drawer to store balsa. The top is 3/4" MDF and Birch ply with an parallel Incra Jigs down the length for a wing jig and fuselage jig. It all seems to work very well for me...but my dream work table would have a means to easily adjust the height. from the floor. I find myself working on a plane with the landing gear on and needing a step ladder to work on it...something is wrong here! I've thought about telescoping steel tubes or some sort of scissor jack in the middle... but haven't landed on anything just yet. It's most likely available but I haven't looked...expensive!

Status: offline 		A good bench top are used wood doors from a older building. They are solid and heavy. If they are doing a remodel they can be cheap.
Always use 1/4" hard board for a slick replaceable surface. 
My work bench is made from one but it is the working area. I wish I had a big area like Rotten40851 or invertmast, saramos, THL101 or Russmall.

I just thought I had it good until these pictures, Thanks :>

I like your set-up with the Incra rails. I have been thinking about something along that line myself. Actually, I just want a reason to buy some Incra stuff.

As far as showing my benches, I'd just like to see them. I haven't cleaned up down there in quite awhile.

Status: offline 		Mine is 4x8 3/4 ply on ladder type fram. One side attached to wall supported by nice used deep drawered (2ft) wood kitchen cabinets. A 4 foot wide one on the left side and more narrow 18" wide on the right. Lots of storage. Cabinet bases can be shimmed so it's glass flat front to back, left to right and angles both ways across its length.

Status: offline 		Mine is a 43 year old kitchen table with a solid wood door on top of it. The door is covered with ceiling tile.
Been using it for 35 years.....planes still come out straight...The door is the key to it all....it has to be straight and level..
I used a carpenters' level and made sure it was right on in all directions, corner to corner, across, and every which-way. I used magazines to elevate the corners that needed it.
I do periodically check to be sure all is level....have never had to change it except when I relocated to a new home.  Easy to relocate.
Mine is damaged on one side but I picked it up at a hardware store for next to nothing...I'm cheap.

Status: offline 		Old doors were popular a while ago, and a piece of drywall over to pin stuff down, or ceiling tiles as Sebo mentioned.  I just use an old heavy metal desk from an auction at work when they updating.  I bolted a vise to one.  I bid $6 on eight of them and got them all, oh well.  We have a steel framed unit available at Canadian Tire here that screws onto the wall and folds down when you aren't using it.  It has a steel frame and a pegboard on the back.  I bought one but can't find an empty space for it.  I am sure they are available in the US. I thought it was pretty slick.  They aren't 8 feet long though.  It could be copied and scratchbuilt with a heavy hinge on the wall.  You could maybe use the garage for the car too?
