The J-10 retracts use standard the standard 1/8" OD - 1/16" ID air line. My FEJ A-10 retracts use the larger 5/32" OD - 3/32 ID" tubing.

In both cases, I used BVM high flow valves.

Status: offline 		My f15 has the larger line and it come with the fittings for the larger airline. It works with most ev2/5 valves. That's crazy wiring lol kinda what attracts me to jets, my f15/14 will be worse.

Status: offline 		I will check out the high flow valves, I do not see a need for the ev valve as there are no doors to sequence that pose a problem, the one nose gear door I will do with a trigger valve off the nose gear up line.

I believe Dreamworks has Festo reducers that will permit you to insert a 4mm tubing in one end and a 3mm in the other.

Status: offline 		The J-10 came with a refueling probe. I didn’t want to attach it permanently, but I wanted to find a way to attach it for pictures. I decided to once again use strong neodymium magnets. I placed the magnets inside the fuse and glued thin stainless steel strips to the backside of the probe. Works great; perfect for pictures and also removal before flight and transport.

The receiver was finally ready to install in the rear of the cockpit area along with all of the batteries and air valve subassemblies (brakes, air brakes, landing gear / doors, and canopy) in the nose area. All the wiring and tubing is set up to allow the fuselage to be split again in the future for maintenance. With these installs, all that remains in the front fuse is to install the canopy and cockpit once the rear fuse is attached and all systems tested. New all up weight for forward section (all inclusive) is a little under 13 pounds. If you look back to my first post you will see I added a little under 8 pounds to the forward fuse (four A123 battery packs, pilot, servos, receiver / Smartfly, valves, etc). WOW!

Status: offline 		Back to the rear fuse: The J-10 has four (4) airbrake doors in the rear fuse. I used McMaster Carr high temp fiberglass sheathing to protect the tubing from all four air brakes and rudder servo and lighting wiring. I then painted the top inside fuse near the area where the tailpipe bellmouth and turbine tail cone meet with BVM Heat Shield paint. I then placed BVM ceramic blanket in that area then covered that with aluminum tape.

Status: offline 		Almost there! Since everything has been built in sub-assemblies, completing the aft section of the fuselage has gone quickly. Mounted the exhaust pipe, turbine, and all related turbine valves, pump, and ECU. Then I connected the rear fuse to the forward fuse with the supplied screws.

Time to check the CG. As you may remember, I assumed all 4 A123 battery packs needed to be as far forward in the nose as possible to balance (based on my old Eurosport of similar size). WRONG! At the recommended 300mm back from the root LE of the delta wing, I am way nose heavy…. I had to remove the “lighting” A123 battery pack (lighting will be installed this winter due to a delay from Details4Scale). I also moved both receiver A123 packs back 2 feet and slid the ECU A123 pack back 3 inches! Not sure why it was so nose heavy; perhaps the rear of the jet (ex. rudder) is way lighter than the Eurosport due to the “honeycomb” construction of the J-10 or the nose of the J-10 is heavier due to the full cockpit and operating canopy.

Status: offline 		Well it is complete! Finally! Final weight (w/o fuel) is 36 pounds 9 ounces for the “honeycomb” FEJ 1:6 scale advanced J-10 “Vigorous Dragon”. The retrofit for the lighting, smoke, and chute will be this winter.

On to Kentucky Jets 2012 ……..

stable in the air? And can it be flown also slowly?

 

Did you somewhere add material to strengthen the parts? Landing gear or whatever?

I had the maiden flight at KY Jets on Thursday morning. The only issue was the aileron control throws supplied by FEJ were way too much. It was almost uncontrolable at that control rate. I will measure the ailreon control throws I ended up with and post it later. I had a total of 4 flights with the J-10 at KY Jets. I am told someone took video and inflight pictures. I will post a link to those once they make them available.

The J-10 will fly slow but not as slow as my Eurosport. The J-10 is much faster than my Eurosport which is about the same length and wingspan. I thought the narrow main gear was going to be a problem during landing, but it was not an issue (even in a cross wind). I don't believe I strengthened anything, but if I did, it would be included in my build thread in previous posts above. I am very happy with the J-10.

I reckon to have found the video on youtube by searching "Kentucky Jets 2012", the video can be found under 12 #4.

Quite impressive this machine and the skills required to control the "red dragon"....!

Did you have to trim the elevator / aileron? Did the C.G. match with what FEJ recommends or did you adjust? Whats the C.G you fly with?

I do ask you those questions because I also bought 1:6 scale J-10. Yet I didn't start building because I'm trying to find out if it's the machine that makes me happy (I really do like the look - a kind of an updated F-16 mixed with a Chinese finish...).

Therefore your help is really appreciated.

Going through the youtube videos for “Kentucky Jets 2012”, a J-10 had a vertical landing obviously... feel really sorry for the pilot. Damn, what happened?

Actually, the landing in video #4 was the worst of the four I had. It lands much better than that. I need to fly it more to get comfortable with flying slow at high angles of attack (as I do with my EuroSport).

I only had to add 2 clicks of up elevator trim at the 300mm CG FEJ recommended. Everything else was in trim from the start (just too much aileron control throw)!

The "verticle landing" of the Large J-10, I was told, was due to an aileron problem (either a bad servo or a broken linkage).

Any update about your experience with the J-10? Have you had other successful flights with the vigorous dragon? if so what's your experience with the setup (aileron / canards / elevator setup)? It would be great if you could share further impressions after the maiden flights.

Status: offline 		I have had 3 more successful flights on the J-10 since KY Jets (the closest paved runway to me is 1.5 hours away). Finally got the ailerons dialed in. High rate is set at 40% of FEJ recommended aileron throw (at that rate it will rolls very fast.) Low rate is set at 30% of FEJ recommended aileron throw and is pefect for normal flight (scale-like roll rate). All other throws are set at FEJ recommendations.

I feel much more comfortable flying it. It does land faster than my Eurosport (I ssume because it is much more scale and weighs more), but it is not a problem. Looks great in the air! I am very happy with it and will be adding lighting (if Details4Scale ever ships me the materials) this winter.
