I've been cleaning the garage out a bit the last couple weeks, and finally got to my engine shelf (just reorganized the outside parts, it's quite full) and happened across the couple Homelite Mighty Light 26cc engines I stashed away. It looks like a decently built engine but the angled back plate looks to make mounting interesting... I figure it could be done but would get complex, either go off the flywheel shroud or make a plate that goes to the back plate screws and wraps around the back... I have one that has a broken pull start (go figure, plastic parts held together with a spring expected to hold together starting an engine) that might as well be stripped and prepped for prop use.

I have one still running that I'm going to attempt to make a trolling motor out of, so far found out the carb needs rebuilt...

Pictures might garner some comments?

You use four standoff spacers on the four tabs where they screw on the cooling shroud.
They sell the spacers in all kinds of lengths and sizes for other gas engines, so it shouldn't be a problem to find them.

hmm, wouldn't be my first choice... I think I'm just going to convert it and use it for a backup for the 4 stroke engine I have for my airboat that mounts by the shroud also since it's oil pan is angled like this back plate

Has the old style 25cc been discontinued?

If you take a look at the newer Ryobi machines, most of them I've seen have 30cc Homelites on them. (The Homelite 30 looks identical to the old Homelite 25cc, and is actually about an ounce or so lighter.)

If you want a Homelite 25cc real cheap, send me a private message, as I have several I don't need.

So no one has figured out how to mount this engine to the firewall other than the spacers.

Regards.

I didn't think about the angled backplate. But I would fabricate a angled motor mount box to fit it and use slightly longer screws if needed. Then you can bolt up the angled box to the firewall. I would simply use good 1/4 inch plywood for it (the model airplane ply not the cheap hardware store wall panels).  It is sort of like the wood motor boxes they use for electric motors in the model airplanes.  One could make it out of aluminum but I don't see a problem with using good plywood for the motor mount box. The front of the box is angled to match the engine backplate area and the rear of the box is straight up and down to match the firewall. You also have a couple of wedge like side pieces and maybe a bottom rectangular shaped piece.  I hope it makes sense, as I can visualize it really well in my mind.
