What was the first short course truck ever released? If I remember correctly, it was either the #5802 Slash or #5805 Slash.

tamiya TA-02 F150  was the original back in the 80's.  
a more modern SC truck was the kyosho landmax exxon superflow F-150 that came out right around 2000.

I'm not a traxxas fanboy by any means, but they are entirely responsible for the current SCT craze. You can't give credit to Tamiya or Kyosho for what's currently going on. If things evolved over time from the Tamiya F150 it would be a different case, but Traxxas definitely took a well calculated risk with the first slash.
