I am building a predator for a combat meet I heard about in New Hampshire in a couple weeks. Thought it would be a good place to give it a try. I have a Magnum XL28-A on order but want to build the plane while I wait for the engine to arrive. I need to know the width of the mounting holes so I can mount the engine beams. Can anyone give me the dimensions so I can continue building?

I am also curious what prop to run. Any advice? So far I have just flown Funbats with a Magnum .15 in unofficial combat with local club members. I hope the predator takes a hit better than the fun bats did!

JCT the way the predator is built there is no way to shift around the weight to achieve the proper balance point, which is very critical for flying wings. The predator builds very fast, so even if you wait until the engine arrives, you still should be able to make the meet, so my advice to you would be to wait until the engine arrives before you start building. Actually you could assemble the wing, but not cover it, that way when the engine finally arrives it would only take two nights at max to finish it off!

On Thursday night I crashed my predator beyond repair (which is a very hard thing to do!) and ordered my new kit this morning. I assume you are talking about attending the may 4th meet in Merrimack, I m trying to re-arrange my schedule (actually I'm trying to convince my wife) so I can attend. If you can't make that meet our club the Central Massachusetts Radio Control Modelers is having a meet on 5/19, hope to see you there!

Where is the meet being held? I have not heard about the meet on the 19th and am interested in attending. How do we get these events on the "Events Calendar" here on rcuniverse?

Thanks for the info!

The meet on the 19th is in Westboro, you can check out our contest calendar here at http://cmrcm.tripod.com/ since you are from Mass, the best way to know about all Central New England Combat meets is to check out racores.com web site. I hope tat helps, if not let me know!

I wouldn't mount the beams until you get the engine. Should only take a few minutes, and if you tried to mount it without the engine, something might go wrong. You should be able to completely finish the rest of the Predator.

As for props, I always used 9.5x4.5 APC props with my Predator running a Magnum XL28-A.

Have fun!

The 9.5X4.5 APC prop is probably the all round best prop for this engine, but very fragile and somewhat expensive.

If you find yourself breaking too many of these high dollar props, just switch to the MA 9X4 and the Mag will love them.

Agreed! The APC props are also difficult to find. I ordered a six-pack from my LHS and they were pricey. I also used MA 9x4's with the Magnum (take a close look at the pic) and use them exclusively with the Norvel .25s. They're MUCH more flexible which can be a good thing! Plus, you can find them at nearly any hobby shop.
