Ed, thanks for the rules info. I’m sure that all the Texas guys follow the same rules except a few do use the bubble-less tank. There is plenty of time between now and race day for those few guys to change their tanks.
We have been using the red and green hi/low wing tags from day one. It sure does simplify things. We use Sargent Art brand FLUORESCENT TEMPERA PAINT which we paint on the appropriate wing, top and bottom. It is easy for the cut judges to see and this stuff washes off with soap and water or Windex. It is available at Hobby Lobby and other arts and craft stores. I have also seen it in supermarkets in the school supply section. We use cheap foam paint brushes to apply the paint. It dries in a few minutes.

Bob , We need to give the paint thing a try as we have been using some sticky colored paper that is some what difficult to remove
We started using some clear vinyl shelf paper then placed the color paper over it to help in removing it .. Your Idea may be the answer
as it seems like it works for you !! Can you send me the name or brand of the product you are using ??? Skip that !! I just reread your thread Duh... Thanks anyway ..

Thanks Dave P.....

We will need to stock up on trash bags!. Let the carnage begin!

At a "normal" race we average about 25% atrition, we will most likely blow that away.............

Is this race turning into the "National"? Sure looks like it........

This is going to be a great pre-Nats race.

Gary can you post the photo of Skully & Bobs mid-air on this site?

I have stripped all of the covering off of my Raider and soaked all the balsa in thin CA, it's as hard as steel.  Plus I got a little extra weight to increase my dive speed.

Jim

Just remember to stay in the draft of the Alabama Gang as they pass you so you can gain the altitude for that dive, and beware of the vortex's and prop wash. These Alabama Pilots are zooming!  WAAM-BAM!  LOL

DP2, I have the paint but have not tried it out. Maybe we can do that at the June 23rd RCRC race.

P.S. My money will be on James Barr.

Ok guys!  Here is the pattern for the Tuscaloosa Showdown in T-Town T-Shirts.  With logo on the front and the back.
They are $10.00 each for all persons participating in the Race (including starters, judges, scorers etc.),  $15.00 for everyone else.  I need number and sizes.  If you want a shirt email me at ed_wal@hotmail.com to pre-order. You may pay by check, money order, or I can send you a Pay-Pal invoice so you can pre-pay and be sure you will have a shirt.  We can arrange for you to pick them up or send them to you at a nominal charge (depending on how many).  I like the look, you can thank Amber Wiesman (Jamie Wiseman our Club President's wife).  Good job Amber!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pocket Tees are also available for 13.00.  They will not have a logo on the front. Jamie says he will try and reduce it or change the logo on the front to fit the pocket so it may not be exactly like the above.

In your email please state how many, what sizes, how you want to pay, and do you want it shipped or pick up at the event. If you want it shipped please give me your full address.

Hey guys!  I just wanted to let everyone know that I will have my "Ed's Field Stands" at the event.  In the Standard and Super sizes if anyone is interested.  I have been making these for over 6 years and sold many to the SPA pattern guys and all over the country, even 2 to Hawaii and one to Finland.  I make these to support my hobby.  They are all alike but each one is differrent in some way due to the one at a time construction.  Here are a few pics and let me know if you are interested and I will put your name on one.  Event day they will be on sale  $120.00(135.00*) for the Standard and $145.00(165.00*) for the Super.  They are fully guaranteed.  If for some reason you don't like it I will refund your money and repair parts are available if needed (haven't sent any ou"t yet).

Contact me for more info.

*Regular price.

I have never raced with a flying start. Could someone tell me the course layout. Where will the starting line be in relation to the pylons.
Does anyone know of videos that I could watch to see what a flying start looks?

Thanks,
Old and slow

RC,
here is the latest video of the A Main race held at Birmingham on May 5th that you can get an idea. You'll have to turn your volume up to hear certain parts, but you can hear Battman on the PA horn counting down the start from ten to zero. The start/finish pole is basically in the middle of the 2 poles. You can see it as it has the 2 flags right out in front of the pilots .
Go out and get you some practice diving down and pulling up hard.

We use a 30 sec clock, when the clock starts the starter will call out 30 sec starts now.
The pilots will fly around the start/finish line (on the center of the back straight away.)
The starter will call out 15 sec. then 10 and will count down to zero. At 10 sec. most will fly away from the start line for 5 sec. then make the turn and come screaming to the staring line.
A horn will sound at the zero mark and the pilots must be on the back side of the start line. If you have jumped the start, you must loop and go behind the start line. A jumped start will net you 1 point without doing the loop. Understand you or your caller must make the call to do the loop as the starter can not tell you fast enough !! Once you pass the first pylon you will rec 1 point, same as a cut !!
For me the start is one of the most exciting parts of the race and then it gets better .... Nothing to it

So, the race starts on the back side of the course going right to left! Then the pylon on the left is “pylon one” and the one on the right is “pylon two”? Also the race ends on the back side of the course going right to left? Our races start and end on the front side of the race course going left to right.
This will be a little bigger learning curve then I expected but no big deal; with August 4 two months away this should be enough time for us Long-Hones to practice and learn this format. Looks like fun.

A good strategy is what is needed for a good airstart, that and skill......  When you nail it you can get a good half lap on the sleepers. Practice by having someone count down the time for you. It is easy to do but hard to get right. I'm the master of the flying start!
