Im sure this issue is in earlier posts, but...

Just picked up this used model off runryder

everything seems to be programed right, but having some real issues with the gyro i think.

Im a newby still with heli's. pretty much rely on my heli savy friend, but he got super busy

Ive been thru the programming modes, tried small and large heli, the gap is right on the servo horn, tried normal and reverse settings on the gyro. the tail servo is right. throttling up seems fine. just about to lift off speed, the tail hunts WILDLY!!!

still cant get off the ground!

before we had the little yellow wire from the gyro plugged in , it would almost hover no stick and controls... we wearnt getting any response from the gyro so we plugged in the little seperate yellow wire.... now the gyro is activated but.... wild wild wild getting up to rpm

im stumped, and so was my LHS guy

Any suggestions would be great

First off the 250's are known for "tail issues" I got rid of mine for that reason. When it flew, it flew well, when it didn't real PIA tracking down the tail issues.
anyway. The yellow wire is needed could be a bad gyro but I doubt it
1st) Is is wagging fast or slow. slow wag is hunting not enough gain, the other is a wag high speeed too much gain. From your psot sounds like fast have you tried dialing it down ? 2nd) If not then try dialing out the wag with gyro gain. 3rd. If this does not work CAREFULLY check all tail control links to make sure there is NO binding whatsoever as this will cause the wag. especially CK the tail blades and their holders. if there appears to be slop even slight slop this will cause binding under load and cause a wag that you can't get rid of. 4th) If everything seems free, CK the servo itself. Replace it with another if you have it. Just could be tired. What servo is it anyway ? Is it the Align DS420 which was standard but a bit underpowered. With my 250 the servo worked well out of the box, 3 months later the "wag set in and nightmares begain. I had to do tail blade holder mods ( Helifreak 250 forum) and a lot of detective work to track it down. Most guys swapped them out for something like a Hitec 5384. More power/ more torque to overcome slop binding issues in the tail that were inherant with these little birds.
Let us know how your making out and good luck

ditto augerin i have the exi 250 with mostly replacement align parts on it im running  a gp750 brand new and a ds420 i have noticed mine wags a bit i went through my tail and fixed all the slop i could i also did the chinese weight mod directly on the blade holder bolts everything is smooth slop free and it still hunts. i have to say its the sub par ds420 i havent yet but thinking im gonna throw a 9257 on as i have 1 laying in my box and see what happens.

Yah tried all that.
It is the ds420
Does seem to have more resistance that the other servos although it's hard to compare with the tiny horn

google trex 250 tail slop forums if you got the first version theres something about the bearings and bolts to long and how to fix if you have a dremel you will have no probs doing it the slop free tail has a big differance on all of it but i got mine slop free and come to the conclusion its the 420 that is the next problem as posted above. 1 other thing is i found the tx gain setting  needs to be lower than usual. like the 450 is around 68% i believe im down to like 58% and it still wags slightly.

Well. I'll keep you guys posted. I left it at a LHS. And the owner is gonna take a look at it for me and try a few things. First of which will be a different servo. Just not sure yet if they'll need to order one or not. How bad would it be to go with a slightly slower servo? I think the 420 speed is a .08

good luck  if you lhs is anything like mine i wouldnt even take a bare wire in to them and ask them to put heat shrink on it cuz id probably get a blank stare and they would try and sell me the wire with the coating on it lol. it would be like taking  your heli to a blind man and ask him for training . anyways im not poking here i would go back and get it back and maybe call align and give em a wt f.

I have a 5384 on my 450.  Super nice servo!  Just wish it was a little less expensive...but Ive had zero problems out of it.  And its very quick!  I had to slow down the tail because that 450 would piro so fast you couldnt even see it!  lol

but i think the case is  the stock servo that came with the kit is no good (wont hold tail) this is in other forums , its sad because align is such a big name.
