The bad news-you won't! These engines were produced in small quantities, and have been out of production for well over a decade now. Spares, even when the engines were commercially available, were in short supply. Your only options now are threefold: (i) get a competent model engineer to make you a new crankshaft, using the old one as a pattern, and this will entail not just lathe work, but hardening and grinding facilities as well, (ii) find another Mk2 VA that is damaged or worn out, but still has a usable crankshaft, (iii) forget it-retire the engine and get a Norvel 049 or 061-preferably the AME model, which is about the nearest equivalent in power and weight to your VA Mk2

Option (i) is likely to be quite expensive, option (ii) an exercise in frustration-unless you're very lucky, and option (iii) will get you flying again with the least amount of grief and aggravation.

VA 049s appear on Ebay from time to time-but mainly the more numerous Mk1 split case model. AFAIK none of the parts are interchangeable with the Mk2 engine. Stels 049s pop up now and then on Ebay, and are probably the closest thing to the VA Mk2 in size, weight and mounting-but these predate the VA, the early ones had issues with the cylinder retention, and spares support is non existent. At least Norvels are available, and have adequate spares support. Of course if you're prepared to accept slightly more weight-and a bit less power-then Cox TD 049/051s abound on Ebay, and Cox International have full spares support. And if you are concerned about the local availability of Cox glowheads in Sweden, you still have the option of fitting a standard, turbo or Nelson plug to the Cox if you purchase the appropriate aftermarket head adapter, which are available from a number of sources.

VA .049 converted to diesel.... not a good idea, good to know!

Sorry for your trouble, the best I can suggest is to get ahold of Larry Driskill of "Kitting it together" as he was the US importer. Larry has helped me with VA MK1 parts in the past, he may have some Mk2 parts as well.

I have a used one. $5 for the crank and $5 to send it to Sweden. (might have a new crank, but it would have to come out of a case)

I also have quite a few new bits and pieces.

(I could probably build several complete new engines, except for pistons and liners)

Larry, I hate to impose...but I've got this VA II with a broken crank also.......
The warning sign that it might break was that it really started running like a scalded cat.

I have two of these, a Combat and an RC version..... Do I need a crank for them? I plan to run the combat engine pretty fast in a pylon model.

DD...If I ever get mine running again I will tune it like a diesel. Sneek up on a satisfactory compression from the low end.

Yep, both. One pressure tapped muffler and a couple of plain ones. An adjustable air bleed carb and several plain ones. You might PM me for a list of parts.
