How does the weight compare to the YS 115 with extra battery and all? People use them in 60 sized warbirds but you are talking a thicker airfoil.

I doubt it would be any faster. Take a look at the video, these are mostly YS 115 powered and are close to the same size and drag as the GP Toni

WEIGHTS:

YS 115 = 730g
DLE 20 = 820g

A DIFERENCE OF 90g; HEVIER THE DLE 20

DLE WITH IGNITION AND EHXAUST

4.8 VOLT BATT. FOR IGNITION = 122g APROX

TOTAL DIFERENCE = 211g

YS 115 WITH 20% NITRO AND 14X12 PROP =9,600 RPM

DLE 20 WITH 14X12 PROP = ????? I DONT KNOW

My guess is that adding half a pound of weight is going to make landing significantly more challenging.

No the DLE will not be faster than the YS-115. the warbirds in that video will also be faster than the toni with the YS-115. The YS 115 is the second fastest engine for the Toni with first being the DF engines.

Extra weight on this plane will not add much to the landing of this plane as it is very easy plane to fly and land. If you want faster and run a GAS engine then you need to run a SSYA 30cc engine as has a higher rpm power over the DLE 30. the SSYA should spin 15x14 APC around 9,000 or so. side mount it so the cheek cowl is helping to reduce the drag. seal off the other cheek cowl so no air gets in. take off the wheel pants and add race wheels of flying off paved runway. i would think 125-130 would be good with it.

Chapa, I ran some calculations and here are the results. Extrapolating from the known fact that the DLE 20 does turn an APC Sport 16"x7" at about 9000 rpm, and the fact that an APC Sport 14"x12" is very close to the same engine load as the 16"x7" by my calculations, the 14"x12" will of course turn right around 9000 rpm too. The DLE 20 calculates to about 2.4 HP to turn either of those props at that rpm.

Whereas the YS 115 develops about 3.0 HP on low nitro fuel (and quite a bit more HP on high nitro), and therefore will turn the same 14"x12" prop somewhere around 9700 rpm on low nitro.

On high nitro the YS 115 develops about 3.8 HP, and will turn the 14"x12" prop somewhere around 10,500 rpm.

Basically, we are talking about a 2.4 HP engine verses a 3.0 to 3.8 HP engine. Also, remember that when your running big pitch propellers, a small rpm difference makes a big speed difference.......

Whichever you install, enjoy the Lil' Tony!

Excellent combo... this engine works great with this plane. To be on the safe side I increased the size of the firewall. There is some cutaway required of the cowling, but that didn't bother me.

As requested,
Notice the additional firewall is glued and screwed to the original. I don't know if you can make out the additional fiberglass, but I added it to the nose of the airplane as the airplane was in a crash prior to addition of this new and larger engine. Not sure it's needed for a brand new install.

I put a DLE30 in mine. It was given to me and I had a 30 laying araround

I added carbon fiber toe to the  i side and ouside the fire wall to keep the fire wall in.

No Led needed. Use a EBC for the ignition off the 2000 6.6 life that powered servos

Put the life way in the back of the tail

I used a APC 15x14 it was crazy fast and fun. It landing like any others Little speed bird.

I lost it after my 8th flight   Hit a tree at WOT on a low pass
