This morning I received my wonderfull BSE FIRE .50.
I will perform the breaking in procedure tomorrow on my test stand.

I have a question.
On your site I can see that the engine performances are somewhere between 17k and 18k with a 10*6. My first idea was to target 17k with a 9*6 for 30 minuts (as per instructions).
But because Dub sended me a handwritted paper with the engine telling me that the pipe was tuned for 18k to 20k with 8.75*8-9 props, I ask myself if I shouldn't breakin in the engine with something like a 8*8 prop around 18k ?

I also ask myself if I shouldn't use heli fuel containing anti emulsion stuff ,because my engine will be fit in a whiplash extreme. On that plane it's impossible to isolate the tank from the fuselage with foam

thanks a lot

Hiya...

Hey... Im always here to answer any questions!

As you noted, there was an almost identical post to yours not long ago. But you are indeed on the right track about keeping the RPM up for break-in.

Do not worry about turning the engine too hard. You will only need a few runs on the ground.

As for the heli fuel........
You can try it, there should be no harm in it, other than the extra oil will make a bit of a mess. Oil might cause a hesitation in throttle response, but you can tweek the low end needle a bit to compensate (after break-in and a few flights).

Two important points.
When using that fuel, be sure to shake it prior to fueling each time.

Also, and this goes for most speed applications using a regular tank, do not fly the tank dry. Time your flight so you never go below 1/3 of a tank. Its that last bit of fuel where you will easily get foam and air in the line..... the engine goes lean rapidly and the internal temperature will spike. After a couple of those, you will be on the phone looking for a new piston and sleeve.

Let me know how you make out

Bob

Good morning.....

You can expect over 18K with the 9x8 (typically).

Dub should have provided you with his initial set-up run info, the rpm the pipe is set for, and which prop he used for that test. The rpm has everything to do with the pipe set-up.

For that prop, the pipe is likely tuned to run around 19,000 on the ground. You will have to execute a couple of test runs to find the actual performance for the installation.

Be sure to launch with the engine set 500-600 rpm down from that peak.

I flown the bird today with a conservative setting of the needle valve set for 17000 apc 9*8
it was already more than enough to pull my whiplash extreme out of the launching ramp nearly verticaly
I will now go for a good max rpm adjustement on ground

thanks for your fast reply and great service, the engine start easy, run great and pull hard

all I wanted...........

Glad you have the performance you are looking for!

Setting the engine a bit over-rich is rarely a bad thing. Once the engine unloads in the air, the engine will make good use of a little extra fuel

Enjoy
