Hey all

First off, I've been watching the forums for the last couple of weeks and now bought a Volcano EXP PRO as a starter truck.

My truck came in today, I pulled it out of the box and let my 2 boys run loose with it at the school yard...sand.

Holy crap!!

Talk about power..yeah I know, its nothing compared to other trucks but still.. I was impressed.

My two boys thought it was awesome to run.

I enjoyed it as well.

Anyways, I want to upgrade the front and rear shock towers and later the suspension arms.
What I really want to know is what type/size of LiPo battery can I put in it.
Its got a Ni-MH SC 7.2v 2000maH in it right now.

Thanks!

I have a few different sky lipo packs from hobbypartz.com
They work well and even come with the same type of connector your truck has

with removing your battery holds it's very easy to drop in any standard 2s lipo pack. i love my "Gens Ace" 5000mah 40c pakcs and my skylipo 3300mah 40c packs.

simply remove two of the battery mounts with their screws from the bootom of the chassis and your done.

nitrosportsandrunner gives you a great 3s pack. it's a monster and your boys may have too much on their hands, don't get me wrong it will handle it, but the motor will run hot at that pont so gearing down or dropping the motor timeing (programed at the factory at 15degrees) this is done with a programing card, or with the button on the side of the speed control.

if they want POWAH give them that pack, you may have a little more laundry to do when they get back. it becomes a 1/10 savae flux on 3s lipo (trust me i've fixed them enough, someone shapped thiers in half, many broken bumpers and several hubs, keep in mind we sell hundreds of these a year)

my two packs of choice are:
http://www.hobbypartz.com/98p-40c-5000-2s1p-hardcase-direct.html

and

http://www.hobbypartz.com/77p-sl3300-2s1p-40c-2222-hardcase.html

the gens ace has more runt time and power. but the skylipo is more than enough. i've owned mine for 5years. now it's nitro cousin is also siting on my shelf

my bad, i meant to link one of the 30c 2s lipo packs...not a 3s.
Cant run the 3s without rewiring the fan anyway. While it can be run on 3s, 2s lipo is plenty of power. A 2s 30c 5000mah pack is what im using in my tornado epx pro.

Hey, no worries.

I do appreciate your input with these LiPo's. I find the run time is short right now with the stock battery. So I do want these LiPos.

Tonight we ran the truck and bent the left rear wheel somehow.

I gotta unbolt the wheel and take a look.

Thanks again.

Hey all,

Yeah..I bent the universal drive joint right at the Hub carrier on the outside. It looks like its bent at the nut.
Should I pull out the shaft and try straightening it?  ..or just order a new one.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

pull it out and straighten it...but also order a new one. any metal thats bent and then bent again back into place will never be as strong as it was.

I generally call that part the stub axle. part # 02033

straghtening it isn't a bad thing as i find money can be an issue at times, however, those are a steel- aluminum aloy. every time you bend it, it does get weeker. eventuallly just replace it. but bend it back and turn the boys loose! you enjoying it with them?

Yeah, we do enjoy running the truck.

I bent the axel back into shape, just by doing so, I could tell another hit could snap it. So I ordered a new set of Axel's for the rear.
Til then, no unnecessary jumps lol

Thanks all.

Ok, still a newb to the hobbie even though I've had the truck for over a month now.
I do have a question about the shocks. I ran my truck tonight and noticed my front left was compressed and not springing back.
Outta oil? I havn't pulled it apart..but I thought I'd asked before I do so.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

The springs aren't stiff enough to return to fully extended. If you think about a real car, your springs are going to be partially compressed all the time. Your Volcano is the same way. If you ever watch people who race RCs make suspension adjustments, they'll always drop the car on the table to get it to sit at the height it will actually drive at.

So, uh.. in short, sounds normal.

A great up grade is to covert to Traxxas shocks. Do away with the eight shock set up and go to using just four shock set up. I did this and it handles alot better. My son has one and we are running the Trunigy nano-tech batteries. He is running the 50c-90c 2s 4000mah. And it will last longer than 2 tanks on my nitro Volcano. I do agree though it is alot faster and and had to turn his down some so he could handle it. Great little truck for the price though. Two things I keep in stock in the tool box, stub axles and dog bones. My son seems to bend the dog bones and break the stub shafts all the time. Any time I order upgrades or parts. I order set of those
