Status: offline 		What do you guys recommend for starting 50CC and larger gas motors. I have a DLE55 in a P47. Any recommendations either factory or home made would be appreciated. I'd prefer something with a self contained battery. 24 volt?

I just use my right hand, it dosn't require a battery just a good flip.

Status: offline 		Just your hand, the engines with electronic ignitions start easily, first flip most the time. With the IE kicking back is a thing of the past.

Status: offline 		I don't have a problem with hand flipping or kickback. My problem is with the larger engine's, anything above about 40cc, I get prop strike's because I'm to slow to get out of the way when it start's. So I could say they start to easy by hand.

Status: offline 		I start a DLE 170 by hand, have never had a problem.
I put choke on, ignition on, flip till it fires, choke off, flip two or three times engine fires and runs. Every time
NO problem

Status: offline 		Yeah I'll have to agree with the right hand. Choke on, two or three flips and she'll berp. Choke off one or two flips and she starts at a 800 to 900 rpm. Fear not the force is with you. I have a 100cc inline twin that flip stars the same way and it throws a 24" 3 blade.

I like the cordless drill idea. Where did you get the shaft, aluminum cone, and silicone insert for the front end? Does it have enough rpm?

Status: offline 		The cone is a Hobbico.90-1.80 size. 2-1/4" Hobbico #HCAP3325 And the insert is #HCAP3330. Sullivan also make's a 3" their number's are s630 ands637. I went with Hobbico because much cheaper. Hobbico's $25-TTL and Sullivan $98-TTL. The shaft is just a bolt. The rpm on that particular drill is 0-1600.

Status: offline 		I use a Miller Product called Persuader that can turn large motors, I powered it with A123 cells and works great. I try never use my hands on a prop, I see many use their hands and it works but I wont take my chances.

Status: offline 		Pacific Aero makes a strong starter. I use it with a Saito 450r radial. I also hand start it when I loose friction on the prop hub.

I've used mine to start everything from glow .46 size to a DA 120cc.

Status: offline 		I like my Miller RC Belt drive geared starter, using it with an old Sullivan on both 12 and 24 volts using good old motorcycle batteries.

BUT, I get most of my ZDZ 40s and 50's to hand start once they are adjusted correctly. Ignition on, full throttle and full choke, flip through by hand or just hold on tight and move right and left through compression until it "bumps." It's not strong enough to pull out of your hand unless you have a really, really weak grip, use a big glove anyway, then choke off, high idle and flip through. Should go in 1-3 flips, if not repeat and try again!

Status: offline 		I use a dynatron 24v. It starts my fuji 50cc and saito 220 4-stroke.
It also starts DLE 55's with no problem.
