Sidewinder exhaust being fitted, this is first trial fit after cutting the holes out, personally I prefer this to the real turbo prop exhaust layout.

Here are some shots of the install prior to the two tanks going in, one for fuel and other for smoke, the fuel tank is a modified carf rookie fuel tank with a capacity of just over 3ltrs, the smaller smoke tank is approximately 2ltrs. Identification decals have also been applied, this is ensure the tanks are filled up with the correct liquid. I have also include a couple of shots of the fuse so you can see the satin finish applied, his is 25% gloss clear with 75% matt clear.

Some final shots of the finished model in my busy workshop. I will add some photos of her outside when I get some assistance to help move her.

Anyway her she is finished, note she is current on her CofG stand.

Good day in the office

Spent most of the day with Ali setting up the Marchetti, it went really well and got two engine runs done also, one to half throttle and the second to full power.

Yesterday saw the new PAF Marchetti at the field for its test flight, a good day, a little cold, a cross wind but nice and sunny.

A very good day with Ali on the sticks.

It seems to have gone Turbo prop mad round here all of a sudden. As Phil said... We got to make the test and set up flights on Joe C's Siai Marchetti yesterday. As coincidence would have, the first of two turnkey build Tucano's that we are also doing for an overseas clients was ready ( Other to follow in approx 2 weeks) Then to top it off, my beloved Marchetti sold today So I guess another day at the field with the sweet sound of TP's is not too far away.

The Marchetti that Phil built for us has come out better than I ever hoped. We must all know his skills when it comes to painting and weathering by now, but this 260 really does come to life when its all together and at the field. The PAF camo scheme just seems to "POP" in the air, and the contrast between the strong, dark camo and the blue underside really is wonderful, especially in rolling manoeuvres. You cant miss that huge sharks mouth and eye ( Even more so now someone had the idea to line them in black ) The lights stood out a treat, even in the pretty bright skies. Everything went as expected for the test flights, well all apart from a Faulty Jet cat smoke pump causing some excitement ( Getting stuck on full flow when I was taxying out ), and then the electronic brake valve deciding to throw a wobbly and needing replacing.

The weather was not ideal as it was blowing a cross wind from behind.... Never good at this field as it rolls in and makes the air over the strip really bumpy, but I knew the Marchetti would cope with it, and cope it did. A total non event was the best way of describing the test flight. I copied the settings from my flying example and everything just worked. The set up was a little tail heavy in my opinion. One big advantage of the long TP nose is that it moves that turbine far enough forward that we actually needed the batteries behind the cockpit, and then some tail weight. Tail weight removed on the second flight I was far happier with the balance point. If anything I could still go further forward, but I need to fly it some more to decide that.

I really am pleased with how the TP nose but with the side exhausts have worked out. I know its not scale, and yes the factory do offer the scale underslung exhausts for it, I just like the way the sidewinder exhausts look and break up the long nose... I maybe on my own here, but hey ho!

Some photos of the model and its (Justifiably) proud creator.

Hi Phil, hi Al,
beautiful plane and great photos as usual!
I've been watching AMI SF260s flying about in the sky here in Italy since I was a child (it's the premiere trainer of the italian airforce), first in the orange scheme and more recently in the grey scheme, so I feel I'm in the right to say that the pilot is out of scale!!! it should be a 1/3 scale!
Few years ago I had the chance to climb in the cockpit and I can say it is really a tight fit for 2 grown up adults and I was nearly hitting my head under the glass canopy with the helmet on!
Another missing detail is the dark shade under the canopy glass, I've never seen a SF260 without it and it looks strange without it (to my eyes at least!).
In any case the SF260 is another entry in my TO-DO list!
Mauri

I looked at painting the top part of the canopy, but prefer the look of the canopy with it clear. It also shows off more of the cockpit detail. I have a 1/3rd scale jet pilot that can go in there but he looks huge. if the customer wants it, I will do it.
Regards Al

Ali,

I'm with you on the side exhausts. Think it looks much more attractive and you just gotta show off that turboprop. Smoke also looks better out each side as well.

In spite of Phil's fantastic paint and finishing work, I still prefer the piston engine nose though.

Cheers,

PaulD

Great build.... very neat.

Anybody knows when the building manual is going to be available ? They said it was going to be ready for August......

Mine should be arriving in three (3) more weeks and still don't decide if going with a TP or a DA 120. I will be building a Tucano with TP at the same time.
