I’m just wondering is the fiberglass top to become a permanent part of the fuse? or will it be removable.

Status: offline 		I gave that one a thought too. While having a removable top Arrow style is certainly more practical, it is not quite as elegant as the single fuse.

The main issue I see if making it a single piece fuse is the finish required to the fuse before permanently attaching the deck to it. I suppose there is a way to install the deck as if it were going to be removable (i.e., with some strips down the side top of the fuse to anchor the deck to), tack glue it, sand the job to uniformity, glass the wood and they paint the items separately so one can also finish the fuse area where the deck goes. The only drawback is that the seam would be visible if bonding after paint.

I suppose the alternative would be to finish the fuse interior area before final finish of the exterior so that the deck can be permanently attached and finished together with the fuse. This might be a better option so that the fuse is well blended in finish.

What do you think Dave?

Status: offline 		Make it one piece.. less chance for flexing and twisting, plus a much better finish for the plane and you can blend it in and make it seamless.

just my 2 cents if i was building one...

I think I'm going to make is as close to the orignal Bootlegger as I can !! David a one piece fuse would look as you put it " more elegant" than two piece with a seam showing . I use a product called Aero lite from Aircraft Spruce Co. (its a two part epoxy filler) This stuff is as strong as any product you can buy to fill gaps and seams !! It sands like chalk and is very lite, makes great fillets around the wing,stab and rudder also.. I'm looking forward to blending the top piece in to the balsa sides .
So I guess you have my answer !!

Here is the latest on the legger !! Its all framed up and glued together the formers worked out fine after a little adj ! I built the fuse upside down using the stright edge on the top of the sides. After glueing it all together I turned it over in the jig dropped the fiberglas top on and it fit like glove !!! More to come ...

Status: offline 		I just found 2 OS 61 VF's so I have ordered the Bootlegger from Don at RCair so I will start on it in the next 2 weeks. I plan on building it with the flat stab
and Steve's scheme

I orded a belly pan for My Southern RC fiberglass Boot from RCaiir and the thing fit just like the orignal.
