I dinged up my CMPro Giles 202 Alien on a bad deadstick landing. Flying at a field that you're not familiar with doesn't help, and I got to the runway with too much speed, leading to a bad groundloop at the end. Bent the wing tube, punched a hole in the side of the fuselage, tore off the tailwheel, and punched up the cowl. Bummer. Surprisingly, the flimsy stock fiberglass LG held together. Now it's time to rebuild the old sled.

It's done and ready to fly again. New fiberglass landing gear legs, new 25mm carbon fiber wing tube from TNT, patches on the covering, and bondo on the cowl. The bondo does a good job of patching the gashes in the gelcoat and sands down nicely. The closest color to "CMPro Blue" was a Ford Blue engine paint, so I picked up a can at an auto parts store and gave it a shot. It's not perfect, but it's hard to see the difference unless you really look for it. Hope to get it back up in the air this weekend.

Hi Cpt I have a 202 ready to go but another guy at the field had one and says that the cog in the instructions is way off, and he spread his all down the runway.
Do you mind me asking where is it on your plane?
What motor are you using?

Seamus, if you're flying the CMPro/Jamara Giles 202 140, I've been flying with the CG set at the plywood former just in front of the wing tube in the fuselage, and it flies nose-heavy at that point. Check the Al Morris build video (part 5) on YouTube; he sets it differently and I'm going to try it there. Per Al, go out to the aileron indent (about 220 mm); from that point on the wing along a line to the leading edge, the CG is 130-140 mm back from the leading edge. Per my measurements, this centers the CG on the wing tube. I'm going to try that next time and see if I can dial out the "up" trim I currently have. Good luck...
