I work extensively with telecom and network equipment produced by several old line companies. Most of this equipment and the various circuit boards are now assembled in China. Compared side by side with equipment produced a few years back, I can see no cosmetic differences and there are no differences in performance. The various components are still from around the world and the point of final assembly probably doesn't make much difference if the quality control is maintained. Not junk equipment at all by most standards.

Most TVs are now made in China as are most of the consumer electronics devices. Are these all junk too? The list goes on and on ....

Clearly all things produced in China are not junk.

then go live there lol

The problem with some is they are only looking at the picture from their point of view only, those that have money to spend go ahead and buy those high priced american made products, but just remember not every one is so blessed to have your kind of money to spend. I am retired and live on fixed income that just barely pays the bills every month, most of what I have in this hobby I bought when I was working and now that I am retired I have watch what I spend and if that means buying china made products in order enjoy this hobby so be it, I do what I have to do.

Please remember though...it is easy to buy a good used engine like a Desert Aircraft or any brand except china made engines...and end up with a better made product.  Or even buy a converted Poulan engine for RC.  Think out-side that china box/coffin.

This is a hot button issue for me. it's really upsetting to see american(s) defending or supporting through sales, a country that has screwed us over so bad . first by manipulating the currency markets so they can stick it to us. sure a lot is made in china . so that means it's good ?. nope. you'll never find a more dishonest group of people ever. take the Turbine jet market for example , they are constantly stealing from each other .then there's the flash in the pan companies that produce a products for a quick buck and then they're gone leaving you begging for parts ,help etc.
. i will never buy a Chinese engine , ever ! i laugh at guys with the DLE series engines. oh how great they are and what a great price. well try to parts in a few years. i had a guy call my g-62 a boat anchor. well those engines "up until this year" were unchanged for ever and could always get parts and they also go back at least 35 years. they are a great engine ,lot's of power and reliable . they may not be the hottest thing for 3D ,but then i don't fly 3D. i once had a conversation with a company owner "which i bet most of you know" ... he told me that he'd never seen such junk coming from overseas . things like crankshaft counter weights scrubbing the inside of the engine case etc. so if you want me to answer the question ... it's NONE !

I hear all the reasons for buying this crap but I have plenty of reasons for not! I too am not a rich man but I still find ways to support my hobby with American made products when I can. I do not own any China ARFS, Engines, or support products. I do have stuff from Japan but not China. I for one am just sick and tired of all the stuff I read about items from China. I was just reading a reveiw and the guy was just so proud he got the first one from China. Or to hear about retailers waiting on a container from China. What happened to all the American companies? I still own Pirate Models, Power House and Bud Nosen. All powered by Brison, BME and Quadra. You can keep all the DLE, Crap, and cheap.

Now where did that uncalled for statement come from Mr. Warbird_1.

My only purpose for posting what I did in the above quote was to point out that Chinese products are everywhere in our society. I'm sure if you are a normal American, your household is full of Chinese products ... it is almost impossible to avoid in modern society today. I wish that were different. Even if you buy American brand names, you're still buying quite a bit of Chinese in the component parts.

You know nothing of my patriotism for this country and certainly know nothing of my background. I'll just accept that you're having a bad day and will overlook any comments aimed my way!

I only know of one Chinese gas engine maker and that is DLE. What are the others?

I own 2 gas engines. One is not very good (not DLE) and though it was $200 cheaper than a DA it has cost me way more in plane repairs. My second gas engine is a DA-50R. I have owned it since 2008 and run it on Pennzoil 32:1. I have never had a problem with the engine. The DLE was not out at the time or I probably would have bought it. However, I am sold on DA and it would be hard to consider another engine even with the cost savings. In this hobby, it only takes one deadstick to eliminate your savings, especially if you like 3D flying. I am not saying anything bad about DLE, I do not own any, but it is interesting to read about needed rebuilds after 3 years. My point is that cutting corners on airplanes isn't always the cheap way to go.

As far as American vs Third world labor. We have to acknowlwdge as a country we cannot compete with their low wages and move forward. I do not have the solution but you must recognize what you can and can't do, then take the necessary steps to protect your way of life. I think some countries in Europe (obviously not all) have done this. Maybe in 100 years it will all be a moot point when smart robots do most of the labor. I give a lot of credit to DA and other American manufacutrers for hanging in there against incredible competitive forces.

all because some have had to rebuild their engines around 3 year mark don't mean all do, there are a lot of DLE engines out there so there are going to be some with problems. I for one have flying a DLE 30 going on 4 years with out any problems what so ever. you also have factor in how they are run, how much oil, and other factors that could shorten a engines life. I have had zenoahs, brisons, fox and a poulan and this DLE 30 runs as good if not better than they all did. easy to start, light weight with great power and never had a flame out except me ruining it out of gas.

you are so wrong the way you handle low wages from third world countries is called tariffs on all their products  that evens the flying field  , have they quit teaching economics in school ?  that makes all a even field to compete against , i will not drop my standards because thirds world countries work for nothing every one of you should be writing your reps in the house and the senate i send emails every day , we have to make the field equal for all not just china and the other countries who have taken our american jobs , and heck yes it is the factory owners for being greedy too  , dont lay down and say we can do nothing , with that attitude we would never have put a man in  space  come on now  !!!!!!!!!!

Good response is because people are getting sick of how one country (china) is making way too much junk.  The landfills will soon fill up with it all.

Well Mr Pope...I bought the Mintor from a USA dealer that gives a 3 year warrenty and that is at least helping people in the USA.  I had quick service and I wanted at least one.  Many people buy cheaper engines from china...just to save $$ to buy a fleet of them. I did buy a H.Davison Motorcycle, a RV, a Big Lake fishing boat and several items I know was made here in the USA.  Most all the products I buy , I can get parts for right here in the USA.  Also I plan to get rid of a lot of RC related items....but not the USA made anything.  Any one feel free to do what you want to do as far as buying china made items.  I for myself vow to cut back on that cheap made stuff as much as possible.

Did anyone at least view that video that I posted a link too???  If not... ya better watch that at least one day a week...till it sinks in.  Now that is enough from me....but I will time from time read this forum thread.  Capt,n

You could also buy a chinease made engine in USA . Also how much of your harley is made in the USA . Do you know the wheels are made right here in Aus . That is until recently , guess where there made now ? Its the same here people think that buying a GMH because its locally made but over %55 of it is from overseas now . Soon everything will be made offshore and the pollys will be saying buy locally but there the ones who turn the planet into one big economy and now there gonna have to deal with the consequences . I just paid $45 for 2 bearings locally ( yes Im a idiot ) and wanted them straight away but next time Ill pay $15 overseas . Im sick of being raped buying stuff locally when they dont even have the good grace to buy you a drink beforehand. My wallet decides where I buy my stuff from now on . If a product cant compete $ for $ there dead in the water and it wont belong before DA and other rc stuff gets made offshore, 1st up they will get a few parts in from overseas and then the writing will be on the wall . Sermon over Cheers the pope

I'm not at all surprised John .... people don't like to stay on subject (or even close to a subject) and when given an open forum to express their displeasure with something, they fail to take advantage of it. Frankly, I was surprised to see the other thread have even 9 replies!!

Pope, likewise many so called American cars and trucks have more foreign component content that some so call foreign brands .....
The American brands are often assembled somewhere else like Canada or Mexico where the foreign brands are often assembled here in the states. Just about every Japanese car company and even the German companies assemble many of their models within the continental USA using a large percentage of made in USA components. Even my GMC truck was assembled in Canada .... my wifes Subaru was assembled in Indiana! Go figure
