I ordered a HobbyKing 4B6 Balance Charger Plus Accessories from the USA warehouse. I received it right away, but On initial power up it pulled over
7 amps from my Lambda 12V power supply causing it to hum. After about 2 seconds the current dropped to less than 1/2 amp and the unit came on. I
charged a LiPo as a testl. The second time I powered it on it also drew +7 amps and then came on after dropping the large current draw.
I charged a 2 cell LiFe and another 3 cell LiPo at the same time. All appeared ok. The 3rd time I powered it on it drew +7amps and would not come on. It
continued to draw a large amount of current and was now dead. It appeared to have some sort of internal short. During all of this one of the output ports
came lose and disappeared inside the case. that turned out to be a nut that was over sized and wouldn't tighten down.
I received authorization from HK to return it and did so.

HK credited me the unit cost, but not the shipping. I wrote back to HK and said I wanted a replacement not a credit. Of course the 4B6 is currently out of stock.
HK now has reversed the store credit and put me on a back order.

The 4B6 looks somewhat like the Hitech X4 Multi Charger. It comes with an impressive number of charging cords and common balance attachments.
Since they are out of stock I'm hoping that most of them are functional.

Does anyone else have one of these in use?

Cheers,
Stan

This does not help, but what others have said about Hobby King re their return/replacement policy along with a lot of variance in quality is the reason I purchased (albeit at a higher price) my Hyperion battery chargers.

The blessing in disguise could be it failed on your third attempt at usage vs it failing and possibly smoking (really!) your battery or even more.

Yeah i'd say the first four words in your post are bang on,looks like another person jumping on the HK bashing band wagon and worst of all he has never brought anything from HK by the sounds of it,which is even worst in my book because he only goes by what other people have said.
My point is that you will always find people moaning about a company for what ever reason but you will hardly ever see the people who are more than happy with said company, all because the happy ones are are happy of course and don't see the point in saying how pleased they are with the service or what have you,so it only makes sense that for the main part HK are doing something good if not they wouldn't stay in business.
I'm one of the happy ones who makes a point of sticking up for Hobbyking, because i've been shopping with them for about five years now and i've NEVER had a problem with them,ok i know some people have had there problems in the past and maybe with good course who knows, from what i've been reading of late HK have really stepped up the there game as far as customer service goes,i saw one of the HK twitter feeds a few weeks back saying how they had just got a bunch of new staff and trained them up for there CS and by the looks of things they have done a good job as the first post shows.
I'm sure if you don't want to wait for another charger HK would soon sort your problem out,if you do want to wait for a new one to come in stock you can't really blame HK if they sell out so fast,i would of took that as a good thing because for the most part people must be happy with it thats why it's out of stock.

If it wasn't for HK i doubt i'd still be in the hobby because prices in the RC hobby for the most part are way over priced,i use to buy from my LHS (over 7/10 miles away) and there prices are that high i nearly gave up the hobby as i said above,i then found HK and realised that we can buy cheaper and good quality products if we want to shop around,so good on you HK for looking after us people who don't have unlimited funds to buy what ever it is we need,i know for sure if i did have unlimited funds i wouldn't go on the forums and ridicule the people who didn't,i'm not saying anyone here has,but you do come across them posts from time to time.

Yeah, I know a guy at our club that has one, it works fine as far as I know. At least he's using it every time I've seen him there

Glad you got a credit and are on the waiting list for a new one. Shouldn't take too long, those are popular I think.
From what I've read Hobbyking are making a priority of improving their customer service at this time. Having shopped there for 6 years I have seen the admin listen to and act on many concerns posted here and on their own forums, from getting rid of inferior products to implementing warehouses in various countries to reduce shipping costs and lately providing spare parts for most of the ARFs they sell.

That's why I keep shopping there, I almost always have a good experience, good products (Due to the very active review tabs on all their products, you can easily spot a product that has problems) and I know they pay attention to the community's concerns.

Only ever had one issue, and it was resolved satisfactorily.
