AMT Pegasus Air Start Question - 6/21/2012 12:04 AM

I am installing an older AMT Pegasus into my jet and had a question about the air/gas lines. Do I need to run a check valve on them or can I leave them open. I was going to make a little plate with two 4mm Festo bulkhead fittings to hook up to but Im wondering if they can be left open.

Status: online 		Hey Cbooth. I never leave those open. It's just to easy for Fod to get in there. I have an open 4mm for my propane and I leave a Festo one way check valve on it in the jet.

Thanks for the reply, so your saying to run check valves on both right? I have it plummed right now without them but maybe I can make some 4mm plugs to put in the bulkhead fittings. My main concern was if there was any back pressure when the engine is running that would put air,ect. back into the fuse.

Status: offline 		If you don't cap off... or use a check valve on the propane and the air hose... along with FOD intrusion:

Propane: The hot combustion gasses will flow out the hose, and melt the fittings, and hose.

Air: You will loose a small amount of pressure in the engine... and it could run a little hotter.

Status: online 		I have learned something knew today. I have a 180 with an umbilical cord between my A S U and my turbine on a test stand right now.I did not think of back pressure from air and propane lines. Thank you for the heads up. glenr

Status: offline 		Haaa I never thought of that when I had my air start AMTs. could have used that air hose as some sort of bleed air tap.. Maybe use a festo 4mm shut off valve operated by a servo to turn it on and off....ahh the ideas.

Status: offline 		check valve on propane line to keep hot gasses inside engine, the tubing can melt. The thick teflon tubing is good for this job. I have not noticed any problems related to the air line needing extra equipment or accessories. Bleed Air is avail. but very low pressure. I recall that Bennie had hooked up bleed air on his Bobcat. ? I believe it was Jets over Pampa 2002 ?.?
