Given the size of most of the 1/2A planes, a little calculation on the area to be covered will show that covering weight is really fairly insignificant - in many cases, less than .5 oz. monokoteTOPQ0304 Weight = 0.2 oz / sq ft (61 g / m²) = 90grs=3,17oz.
ultracote Weight: 0.12 oz per square ft (36.6 g / m²). = 54.9 grs=1,94oz.
(90 -54.9) = 35.1 grams = 1.2 oz.

Status: offline 		Looking good, sirzepp. I have a question about the dihedral in the wing. I am working on a Kadetito also and on the plans I have there is no actual figure for the amount of dihedral. Measuring the angle of the dihedral brace with a protractor I get 9.5 degrees. Is there a figure on the plans you have?

Status: offline 		I expect you'll be OK with the dihedral, sirzepp. I checked a model design book I have, and for a trainer, an angle of 6-8 degrees was specified for 3 channel trainers. Think I'll go with 9 degrees. A little bit either way probably won't matter.

I made my first big screw up above (there have been a few little ones). I used a 1/4 inch ply firewall...for some reason my brain was convinced it was the right size (1/8")...I've had a lot on my mind lately and even though it looked too big...I installed it without reassessing. So now I can but a 30cc gasser on the front of my kadetito. Dear Lord, I think I'm going insane. Anyway, it shouldn't matter TOO much, I'll just move the battery back. The bummer is, I'm using an ultra light LiFe battery, and I just counteracted that weight savings...lol. But I am too lazy to fix it.

Status: offline 		Got the fuselage sanded, installed the cowl, engine mount (and mocked up engine, obviously...which is where I started making airplane noises!). Hinged control surfaces and started mocking up servo placement. It's getting there, but the electronics installation and control rod routing is always where I bog down...I don't find it enjoyable at all. I'm looking forward to covering, but until I get the radio squared away I have to wait...UG.

Status: offline 		My mother-in-law is 81, doesn't mind 1/2A centerpieces, and occasionally goes up to the field with us to get a little stick time in on the buddy box. If your mother-in-law doesn't get the centerpiece thing, take her to a swap meet and trade her for a couple of good running TD's or something

Status: offline 		She's up on her own legs now. Servos are installed, pushrods routed, engine mount ready...getting really close now...




Wheels are dubro ultra lite foams...front one is a bit smaller, but they are all kind of big because I want it to be able to fly off reasonably mowed grass. My dad doesn't have access to a formal field, so he'll be finding a place out in the boonies...and I want him to have all the options he possibly can.

Status: offline 		It looks terrific. Over-sized wheels are excellent on grass, especially for small airplanes. It's amazing what will take off from a rough field if you just make the wheels big enough.

Can't tell from the picture, but you want to make sure that the landing gear setup keeps the wing level, or even just a tad down, otherwise they just keep bouncing and trying to take off again when you try to land them
