Ground attitude is more level than in the photos...did some creative bending.

FWIW my Kadet senior has the infamous saggy mains and sits pretty nose high...no trouble AT ALL landing that bird...and it's a kite (20 years old and never been crashed!). In fact, landings with a victory roll (holding the nose off as long as possible) are pretty dang fun...even now with all the other planes in the hangar. Love that bird. My old Kadet is the reason for this build, as my dad misses that plane a lot, but doesn't have the time, field access, or location (I'm 700 miles away) to put any stick time on it. So now I'm giving him a solution...a smaller version he can fly almost anywhere!

Here's a pic of the old Kadet (we call it the Big Green Ugly...even though we think its beautiful...some guys at the field where I flew growing up nicknamed it that...and it stuck)

That's my boy in the pits. Three generations of RC enthusiast have now flown the same plane (though he still needs my help...he IS only 3).

We shall see how it works before making changes as I need to get this off the board and done...other projects are waiting (gonna do a Big Stik 60 scratch from plans next...or a WWRC 50cc Profile...depending on when the WWRC profile is back in stock).

Here's a pic of the covering process:

(sorry for the ninja edits...fixed the gear and decided to edit the post)

The transparent matched with the striped solids looks good. It's going to be a really sharp plane.

Thanks so much! Covering is definitely a love-hate relationship...I enjoy the artistic outlet...but so often the skills fail me. Encouraging to hear it looks good to someone other than my wife and I (she's biased, of course).

Just hope my dad likes it. I was going to do it in lime green to match the big brother, but I really like transparent for it's weight savings (minimal, but still there) and the ability to see the structure.

Looks super Sir Zepp. I always prefer to cover stick built planes like the Kadet series in transparent films. It gives a nice nostalgic look to them as well. If they are larger, I don't mind the extra weight of iron-on fabrics for an old design. I have an old Lou Andrews H-Ray covered this way.

It's done. Broke the motor in tonight, runs great! Maiden flight is tomorrow, weather permitting.

Wonderful build on the little Kadetito, a great gift for your dad.  I have an old Kadet, over 20 yrs old, still airworthy.  Had an OS .40 LA on it, but I'll re-power it with .52 4-stroke.  I recently bought a nib Thunder Tiger Scooter ARF that's covered in transparent film, 52" ws.  Haven't decided on what power plant I'll use yet.

Thanks everyone. The maiden went extremely well. Such a sweet flying little plane! This Norvel is awesome as well. I want another 1/2 project now!

My dad has been informed that all is good with it, and he is excited to see it. I'll be making the drive up to Oregon soon to drop it off. I gotta say, after flying it and having to wipe the ear to ear grin off my face...I may have to build one for me .

Congratulations, what a sweet airplane and a great thing to do for your Dad! Hope you build another for yourself.

Thanks! It's definitely on the list to build another, but right now I'm working on a built-from-plans Big Stik 60 (but it's being built out of sticks instead of slabs...coming out well and LIGHT).
