Well Mine has flown and it was great!!

First flight was a little hairy, I needed quite a lot of left aileron trim and then when we tested the 1st stage flaps it nosed up and rolled left hard so the first landing was with no flap and was fine. Once we got that sorted the next flight was much better and we were able to use the flap, ended up going straight to landing flap for the final circuit and it landed very nicely.

Overall it is a great little jet and the P80 pushed it along nicely. I'm looking forward to putting in more flights on it at Temora Jets in a few weeks.

I've got some video of my second flight but my camera man was having issues seeing it so it is not that great but gets the take off and landing. A Big thanks to Phil Celima for his help today

Congratulations Jeremy on your first flights

As you have found out shes very stable at full flap, You can force your way in without picking up speed and get a very nice flare with no tendency to balloon.

I remember mine too did roll a little but only with half flap on the first flights and had to be trimmed with a small bit of mixing

Have many more and enjoy you up coming Jet Meet

Regards Mark

Congrats Jeremy, look forward to seeing it at Temora.

Thank goodness your cameraman flys better than he can video!

Thanks Mark,

Good to hear someone else had a similar issue as well. We reduced the flap travel on the right wing slightly and I think it may have been just out. In the video take off was with no flap and it got off just fine. I'm really looking forward to getting to know it. Thanks for the help as well on here and via email.

Cheers

Jeremy

P.S my CG was 35mm behind the stock cg as per everyone else and is a good place to start

Try reducing the 1st stage throw on the right wing, I did this and the roll to the left was minimal after that, I think I'll just use full flap only and no flap for take off. Full flap had no flap change at all so the take off flap roll seems to be a common thing issue.

My left trim is 19 clicks left or about 2mm up (futaba 12fg), I think this is partially due to the slightly warped right elevator, but trimmed out it is fine.

I've put more photos on my Facebook page of the build and the day

Hi,

I also had the maidnflight of my "vodafone" viper on wednesday. Everything went perfect.
Mine didnt roll to the left with take off flap setting. Flies great!!. My cg is 30mm behind the factory setting, but i will install a smoke next to the
turbine, so i will get the 35mm. A very nice jet for a good price!! i have a 9kg turbine in mine (1000g) and the weight is 10kg empty . So for takeoff around 12kg

HI William,
I got a JL viper jet coming in about 3 weeks, I was wondering if the jet cat p140rx would fit in it?
I thought with a smoke system, it could use more power then the p80 or p100, I can turn it down
a little. What do you think? I enjoy your flight video's.
Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike,

don't do that. do not use a P140.
To heavy, to much power.
We flew our at JetPower this weekend.
As I wrote, I use a Merlin 100, cuted out the ducts, removed the tanks more to the rear, the CG is by 3,5cm behind the original and the t/o weight is with 2,4l kero and 0,75 somke 12,34kg.
With htis motor the Viper goes very fast, we had only by one straight and level flight the power of full throttle.
You can fly loops as big as you want.
But that's just only my opinion and the experience of nearly 30 flights with the little Viper.

Myadvice would be to turn the power down or just be careful on the throttle! The first Vipers here in the UK flew on the JL T12 which produces about 28 pounds.

Hi Mike,
I bought the"Turn Key" version,include JL T12(120N) turbine,3L fuel tank and 2.4L smoke tank,HV servos etc.
As far as i know T12 turbine's diameter and weight is the same with the Jetcat p140rx,so it can fit in your viper
jet very well.My little viper had more than 100 flights.I like flight with strong power.
If you do decide to choose p140rx.my opinion same with Jeff,  turn the power down a little or be very careful on the throttle!
Maybe help you!Enjoy your flights.

Regards
William

After visiting Jet Power over the weekend and seeing this kit in the flesh, its on the list, just awaiting confirmation on when the e-retract version will be available.Jet Munts also have a new turbine being released,M100X which is an updated 100 with internal valves/sensors,same size/weight as the VT80 which I was thinking of using. After seeing the Jet fly on the Merlin 100 at the show, this would be my engine of choice.

Here is some more video of my Viper over the weekend. My last landing of the meet was the best, really slowed it down as we had a strong head wind.

It is a great little jet to fly and really hums as it cuts through the air. I'm contemplating adding some white to the the silver as it really reflects in the sun.

Does anyone have a view on whether a P70 (17.5lb) is just too borderline small for this airframe? That's all I've got.
I saw Jeremy's at Temora and it flew really well with the P80SE.

I use an 80SE also, off tarmac.
On grass or rough a 70 would struggle but on tarmac it would fly, verticals would be a struggle and take offs long though.
In short, it would fly but not be very enjoyable, it's a quick machine even on an 80.
Gary.

I think so to be honest, the airframes just a bit too big.
