It's way too heavy for pattern (849g). kV also seems a little too high, but since they recommend a 21x13W APC propeller, maybe it's possible to use a 21x14.

Why bother when you can get a real F3A motor from Extreme Flight RC for about $200.

And it's nice and lite too.....

250-300 watts/lb is common because you want a system that can handle long verticals easily.

But 849 grams is ridiculously heavy for a pattern motor. An excellent choice at a reasonable price is the Himax 6330-210 weighing around 630g at a cost of approx $279. A Plettenberg Advance 30-10 weighs in at 567g (which was what mine weighed, although some report somewhat higher) at a cost of about $570. Geared inrunners are lighter, but get ready to spend more. I like outrunners (altho the Advance is actually a direct drive (1:1) inrunner) for their simplicity and low maintenance - no gears to grease!

IMO there isn't a better 'bargain' motor on the market for pattern flying than the Hacker A60-7S V2 28 Pole motor. I flew Andrew Jesky's Osiris 2m with this motor in some pretty heavy wind in Phoenix and it had MORE than enough power for anything I wanted to fly.

Avrod,

I bought a Turnigy to try it once, and I had to rework the motor in my lathe, and still taking some material off, it never came close to the advertised weight, after the rework it was still 22gr more than the specs.

Consider also the shipping cost befeore you make a desicion.

Bother because the Rotomax is just over $100. Saving a hundred dollars.

Think of $100 as the average cost if 28g savings. That makes the $200 motor a better deal for anyone interested in maintaining weight. Is personally rather invest in something with a good track record and a little customer support.

I have many Turnigy motors running in my airplanes...including a 90 size pattern plane and a 50cc Yak, and they work great.

Im not slamming the brand...but for pattern the Bullet is one of the best buys on the market today.

Just my 2 cents...

Just have to remember,  you get what you pay for.    And a  motor that cost  $100  is probaby just  junk to start with.     Plus,  what are you going to do when you need customer service.   Won't get it with Hobby King.    And after  shipping cost,  it's going to be  alot more than $100.

I would bet one of the other  tried and true motors.

I have to defend some of these lesser brand motors because I have used many with great results.

I have "over-clocked" almost all of them and they just keep running.

Only had one go completely bad on me. But it was my abuse that put it there not the quality of the motor.
