Hi AL

Im new to this forum and mini rc helicopters so please bear with me

I recently bought a lucky boy 9955 Micro RC Helicopter. Ater 1 day of use I seem to be having battery issues ( well so i think).

The problem im encountering is, my helicopter only flies up for a few seconds before its starts to go down and hover over the ground. Usually thats the sign that the battery is degraded however, because my flight time was not even 30s , I switched off the helicopter leave it for few minutes and then  try flying again and it flies once again up in the air for few seconds before it starts to come down and hover. I have to keep repeating the process of switching the helicopter off for few minutes and on again ..until it no long lifts of the ground. When this happens i try charging it  via usb , however I've  notice the charge times are short like 15 min, which is unusual.

Basically Im not seeing the 5-7 fly times i expected ..apart from my first flight which was 100%.

What could be causing this problem ? Is it my Helicopter or is it the battery ? What are the alternative solutions to the problem ? Considering the helicopter is only few days old.

Should i drain the battery for a day or two and try recharging ?

Kindly advise

thanks

R

well it says it uses a lithium ion battery so basically you can drain them down to nearly nothing. with that being said do you have a multi meter? if you do i would check the battery , loaded and unloaded. loaded meaning its powering something like figure out a way to hold the heli  spool it up a little bit and read the meter. it could be the wall charger (cheap) isnt working the way it should, it could be a crappy batt, it could be the power board that runs the motors, it could be bad brushes in a motor.

I have a heli very similar to this one....looks the same, just different brand.

Mine has a small lipo 3.7v in it and when it gets low it must have some sort of LVC that cuts power to half and does exactly what you are describing...basically hovers right above the ground.

If yours has a lipo...I dont suggest draining it too low.  If you drain a lipo too low...the least you will do is ruin it and not be able to get a full charge...or at worst could catch fire when trying to recharge.

If you have tried running it at low voltage for a long time...damage may already be done.  But like morgan says...it could be other things not battery related that is the problem.

My heli like the one you have doesnt have a replaceable battery.  Its soldered to the board.  Which doesnt mean that I couldnt replace...just would be a PITA to do so.  I have the skills to solder batteries...but not all people do and that makes this type of heli pretty much a throw away.  Moreso because once the lipo has reached its lifespan...other parts such as the brushed motors and such will be worn out too.

It just sucks that you are having this issue with a brand new one.  I dont know what to say other than contact the place you bought it from and describe to them what is going on.  Maybe, just maybe they will exchange it for you.

I read that too.  I just figured it was something lost in translation.  Because mine is almost identical and it is a LiPo in mine.  But I guess it could be a LiOn???

Hi ALL

I will open the canopy to verify. Having said that , I tried charging from the controller and still sthe same thing. Gains height and then starts to lose height after few seconds ? WHats the chances that the rotor speed is not up to scratch ? Also i notice my balance bar is below the top rotor ? Does that make a difference ?
