Status: online 		The wing and fuselage had a few areas where the paint surface was dull, due to soaking into the Spackle.

I wet sanded the wing and gave it another coat of color. I wet sanded a few areas on the tail surfaces and fuselage. Those areas were also given another coat.

Status: online 		After a couple days a wet sand (800 to 2000 grit wet-and-dry sandpaper) was done on the finish to remove dirt and bugs.

Status: online 		The rest of the model was masked off to keep off in areas not wanted.

I used gloss black Krylon spray paint for trim.

Apply a light coat first. Let dry a few minutes and then spray until the paint covers.

In about 1/2 hour the paint is dry enough to remove the masking paper.

Hopefully there will be some warmer weather for applying the clear coat.

Status: online 		The temperature warmed up from 20 F this weekend to about 50 F today.

I took this opportunity to spray on the clear coat.

A fast hardener was used as the temperature was cold. I thinned out the clear coat using a fast reducer, so it would lay down easier in the cold temperature.

A light coat was applied over the surface. It was let to dry a few minutes and then more coats were applied until the surface was shiny.

I set the parts out of the way to dry.

Status: online 		I followed with a cleaner polish. This is like the rubbing compound that we used to use. The picture shows a gradual improvement in the finish.

I finished with a liquid wax. The overall finish looks very good from 5 foot, so it's a 5-footer.

I'll have to wait until warmer weather for that super finish.

Status: online 		I talked to Kevin Matney from Matney's Models about the difficulties when polishing out the wing.

After polishing the wing still had scratch and swirl marks. Kevin suggested going to a new foam bonnet and using a finer compound.

I used the foam bonnet and finer compound and now the wing looks considerably better. The following pictures show what the bonnet looks like:

The foam bonnet is standard equipment provided with a 6" Turtle buffer.

The aileron hinge line is freed up by moving the aileron at the hinge line.

Status: offline 		Scott, Rather than using nylon clevis, use Hayes Steel Pin Clevis instead. Especially in our pylon racing models. You can purchase the steel pin clevis at Tower Hobby or any other hobby shop that carry Hayes products. Just a thought!

Initially mount the tank as high is it will go in the fuselage. Mine ended up about 1" above the wing.
