Even though I am heavily into spreading the word on how good the Benedini TBS sounds, I realize not everyone wants to spend that much money on sound.

I purchased a digital sound card from 123 Electonics that you users of DBC2s might be interested in. It is a digital sound recorder that can hold four distinct sounds. So on a DBC2 this one card will host a cannon , hit and destroy wav files for clear playback. You strip off the speaker, and lose the buttons. Instead you wire the output from the DBC2 or 3 to the trigger points, and run the speaker output to an amplified I pod speaker. Sounds are loud and clear like you would expect from a .wav file
Software is downloadable and free from 123 Electronics. Has some other interesting features as well, allowing you to group sounds that are activated in sequence by the trigger. i.e first time the tank is hit it plays one sounf, next time it is hit it will play a different sound. Card can house 300 seconds of sound clips.

Recording module

From 123 Electonics web page.

Since we're on topic, I also recommend this MP3 unit for anyone wanting to play around with sounds:

SD Card MP3 Player Module RS232-TTL

http://www.mdfly.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=9_53&products_id=284

It's much better than the above and cheaper, but a little more work to use.  You can play specific files by grounding the pin 1-7.  Best thing is the RS232 can be controlled by a micro processor easily.  Can do all sort of things with it using an arduino.

Nice site. Some interesting hardware avialable. I think a guy could do some pretty amazing stuff with this if he was a programmer and understood the control interfaces. I don't, but I sure wish I did, because I think there is an EL Mod or Benedini potential in there somewhere.

Nice to see that some work is being done to develop a cheaper alternative to improve the H.L. sound ....
I have been doing some experiments of my own in that same direction ...
I chose to remain 100% analog , and design a Voltage Controled Oscillator ( V.C.O.) ; which is triggered by the RX -18 sound module ; and then remix with it so I can keep the better sound effects like : start up , machine gun , main gun and shut off ; while " beefing up" the whimpy running sound ...It's nothing fancy but it's another avenue to be explored ....youtu.be/fInrTeD_Hqw

That sounds much better. Too bad HL never get the RX14 sound file. It was much better then the RX 18 ( for running)

Hey Dan
Would this be an idea an interchangeable sound card on the RX18 board . Replace the RX18 sound chip with socket for a sound card. Would it work? I wish I knew how to build electronic stuf.

Happy Canada Day eh

Cheers To Canada

Maybe. Something I haven't looked at. I know the Mato electronics have a removable sound module, too bad the rest of the electronics wasn't better and it might of been worth experimenting with.

This looks interesting.   The thing I like about the DBRC3 and Benedini sound card is the ability to use the Tamiya apple.   If one just wants sound and is not into IR Battling this might be promising.
