Hi All: I have been working on a project the past few months converting an ESM 85 inch Corsair into a museum-quality replica as a project for a museum here in the Denver area. I know this might seem blasphemous putting a rc plane together purposely that will never fly, but I thought I'd share a few detail pics of it to anyone interested. The purpose of the post is to show some ideas for detailing an existing model to make it look better and more accurate. Many of these things I would have done anyway if the project was meant to be a flying model, and if I do make one someday, it will probably have some of these things I put on this one.

I'll post some photos, if there is any interest, I can post more, or discuss some of the techniques that I used in making this model.

Cheers

I think that, in all honesty,  we can say bring it on,    and to have a YT/ESM done in this way is an honour,

Thanks, I am happy to discuss anything on this project that might be usable or of interest to other modelers. For instance, I did make a workable tailhook. If this lever arm was attached to a servo, it could be lowered with the gear and flaps to simulate an approach for a trap on the deck. I had thought this might be cool to do as a contest maneuver flying a low, slow, dirty pass, and then doing a "waveoff" or go around. I might do something like that on a future, flyable model.

For those who are on RCScaleBuilder.com, I do have a blog on that under scale detailing area

I'll attach some more in-progress pics or finished pics of this aircraft. It is a replica of a plane flown by Medal of Honor recipient Lt. Bob Hanson (USMCR) who flew out of Bougainville and other small islands in the Pacific during WWII. He was the highest kill ace in Corsairs, navy or marine. And he got his 25 kills in 3 months!

Very impressive, just think how good the video would look if you could get her in the air.

Hi GaryM. I have done several other projects in the past that were flyable at this level of detail, and this one would really look cool in the air. Most of the things I did on this one I would carry over to a flying model. A few little details, probably not.
