Status: offline 		I recently built a nice FPV glider. I'm using a BERG 72mhz receiver but I'm only able to get to 0.4 miles before I get glitching. I'm using a stock Futaba 9CAPS radio as my transmitter. What type of Futaba receiver would get me longer range? I have a pile of R168DF receivers kicking around. Do you think they'd get better range than a BERG? I'd like to have the option to go 1 mile.

I've heard PCM can get 10% more distance, but then it locks you out when it reaches that distance. I'd rather have it glitch and then let me know I'm approaching a boundary where I need to turn around in a hurry.

Status: offline 		David, check to see if your Berg is a full range RX, it may not be. I think you will find that with any Futaba compatable full range RX the range will be about the same. the range is based on the transmitting wattage of the TX and all brands are putting out the max that the FCC will allow for that frequency. Beleive it or not what has a greater affect on range is the actual installation of the RX and antenna in the aircraft and amount of noise floor in your area. Think as noise floor as ambient noise much the same as a crowded room while trying to have a normal conversation with the person in front of you. Verify you have a full range RX and then do some range checks as per Futaba's instructions while placing the RX and antenna in different locations. keep the antenna away from anything electrical or metal and keep in a horizontal position. Taking the time to do this will give you a bit more range.

Status: offline 		Your glitching might be onboard interference.

I fly fpv with a JR 610UL and could easily go 1 mile with zero glitching.
After adding a OSD I get glitches at 4,400'.
I have some sorting of wires to do and possibly rearrange of some components.

I have a few Berg Microstamp 4L's and was considering using them.
They are/were sold as Full Range.

Any idiot with 2 nickles to rub together can try his hand at this stuff now.
It might not bring the hobby down in one fell swoop, but a major SNAFU will cause public outrage and then everyone will end up having to pay the price.

Status: offline 		The 168s have been demonstrated to 1.5 mile range, but that's unobstructed line-of-sight. I suggest you test on the ground first, not airborne, with at least two people using cellphones. Even then, it would be wise to cut max range by 15-20% for safety.

Is there is a way to modifie the TX Radio in order to output more power for TX signal?

I undertand that in USA, FCC limit the output of these TX to some miliwatts, but is there is a way to outlaw and modified then to have more TX watts? I dont live in USA and here in my country nobody check this :-)

Also, I really dont know if eaven in USA, if the FCC check you guys to see if your TX and other Video an Telemetry gadgets comply with FCC regulation.

Any advices?

Status: offline 		There are ways to 'run power'. 

The laws here in the U. S. are strongly enforced. We had an individual near our flying site who was running power on our freqs to knock our planes down. Took us 2 seasons to figure it out, but after a phone call to the FCC and a brief investigation, his ham license was permanently revoked and they confiscated his radios.
